Henry Highlights Three More All Star Top-Tens With Runner-Up

FREMONT, Ohio – After a phenomenal effort in the first points race for the All Star Circuit of Champions this season resulting in a fourth-place finish, Cap Henry and the Genzman Racing Enterprises team took on three more All Star events over the weekend, with similar success. A runner-up finish on Saturday, bolstered by top-tens from deep in the starting lineup on Friday and Saturday made it four top-tens in four appearances this season for the team.

Friday night’s event was the first ever winged 410 sprint car contest at the “Playground of Power,” Plymouth Speedway in northern Indiana, with 37 cars in attendance for the “Earl Gaerte Classic.” In qualifying, Henry took to the already extremely slick surface and timed in 18th with a 14.768-second circuit. That time slated him to start third in his heat race, but fell to fourth early and was stuck there for the remainder of the race.

Still earning a transfer to the feature, his qualifying time determined starting position. Coming from outside row nine, Henry was one of relatively few drivers on the move in the 35-lapper. It took him just ten laps to crack into the top ten, and into seventh by lap 14. Battling hard with a frequent competitor, fellow Attica and Fremont point racer Byron Reed, the pair squared off for the sixth spot for much of the final 15 laps. Henry had the advantage, but spun his machine in turn one. Able to spin 360 degrees and keep moving, he lost just one position. Henry collected the seventh-place finish.

Back at “The Track That Action Built” for two nights Saturday and Sunday, Henry set a blistering 13.313-second lap in qualifying to go fifth-quick on night one at Fremont, among 45 entries. Starting fifth in his heat race, he was able to move up one spot to fourth to transfer, and as one of the two fastest in qualifying to not finish top-two in heat action, earned a dash appearance. In that event, a redraw gave him the 11th starting position, where he’d click off four passes to finish seventh.

Starting there for the 30-lap preliminary feature event, Henry was rocking on momentum from two wins last week, including one at Fremont, and a charge forward at Plymouth. The Bellevue, Ohio racer used the dry-slick surface to his advantage. While others seemed out of place, Henry’s steady right foot got him to a podium spot with just 13 laps in the books. While the eventual winner, Australian James McFadden, was pulling away, Henry was able to sneak past one more car to take the second step on his first All Star podium of the year.

The big show was up next: a 50-lap contest worth $10,000 to the feature winner. Unfortunately, a pill draw for late in qualifying hurt his chances at that, as the track slowed considerably from the first car to time in. 13.753 seconds was the time he produced, just 37th-quick of 49 cars. Being second-fast among his heat race grouping got him an inside row two starting spot for heat race action following the top four invert. Dropping one spot got Henry his third fourth-place heat finish of the weekend, but his third transfer to the main as well.

Going 20th, the Level Performance-powered J&J Chassis would again have a long trip to the front in store. Biding his time and saving his tires for late in the race, Henry slowly but surely moved forward. Nearing lap 20, the Genzman No. 53 moved to 13th, and continued his drive forward. When a red flag for a fuel stop was required with 16 laps to go, he restarted in the 10th position. Powering forward from there while a showdown for the lead was taking place, Henry roared past three more competitors to get to seventh before the checkered flew.

While Henry pointed out he didn’t think he had the setup to win, he was still pleased with the progress on the car over the course of the night. “We were kinda off tonight. The car wasn’t real good, just better than it had been [early in the night],” he said.

Henry would like to thank Level Performance, J&J Auto Racing, OC Shocks, FK Rod Ends, Simpson Race Products, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, HMS Speedways & Hobbies, Handy Grafix, and Kear's Speed Shop as well as his family, the Genzman team, and all of his great fans for their continued support.

Henry is next scheduled to compete on May 29 at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio in the “Kistler Engines Classic” with the World of Outlaws in the No. 53 410ci winged sprint entry.
