Wilson Posts Season-Best All Star Performance at Fremont Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (May 27, 2019) – Greg Wilson produced his best weekend of the rain-soaked season during a pair of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions races in Ohio last weekend.

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road backed team kicked off the action on Friday at Attica Raceway in Park in Attica, where Wilson overcame early struggles by rallying to a fourth-place outing in the B Main. That earned the final transfer into the main event. He then charged from 24th to 14th in the A Main, which was tied for the second-most cars passed.

“With the way the weather has been and not racing much, to change as much stuff as we’ve changed and to go have a good run was good,” he said. “We passed cars in every race we were in. Even though we passed cars we learned some things we can’t do, too.”

Following a rain out on Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, Wilson ventured to Fremont Speedway on Sunday. A fifth-place run in a heat race locked him into the 15th starting spot for the main event.

“We’re 20 miles from Fremont and it rained all day,” he said. “We thought there was no way. The All Stars and Fremont Speedway did a great job and gave us a great track. To have all the rain we had this week and to have a track we can race on, they did a hell of job.

“After qualifying we made some big changes. For whatever we’re doing it doesn’t seem to change or effect as much as it should when we make setup changes at the track. After the heat I thought to myself we’re not taking big enough swings. We took a big, big swing at it, especially in a situation where we’re not typically good – a wet and rough track. The car rolled around really, really good. When you get confidence you drive it even harder. I thought we had a better car than we finished, but we had a right rear tire going down. We lost a spot when really I felt we could have been two or three spots better.”

Wilson’s run to a sixth-place finish was the third-most cars passed and it marked his season-best result with the All Stars. He now ranks ninth in the championship standings.

“We have another DRC car we’ve changed on more than the one we’ve been racing,” he said. “We’re going to build this other car and give it a go at Mansfield with a little different car to see if it helps. It’s similar, but there are enough changes that I’m hoping it will be a little more forgiving. The setup window may be a little wider.”

The COMP Cams Sprint Car World Championship is up next for Wilson this Thursday through Saturday at Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio. The event pays $100,000 to win, making it one of the highest-paying races in the sport.

“I feel like the car will have enough difference it will help us and probably won’t hurt us,” he said. “That being said it’s nice going to a place where we’re not racing for points. We’ve got three nights at the same place to where you can throw some things at it and hopefully by Saturday when the money is on the line you’re in position to get after it. A good run in a big-paying race like this could change things for the whole summer.”
