Smith Picks Up $10,000-to-Win Jim Ford Classic at Fremont Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (Sept. 23, 2015) – Ryan Smith returned to Victory Lane last Saturday during the Jim Ford Classic at Fremont Speedway.

The $10,000 triumph was his third of the season with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions, which ties him for third-most with the series this year.

“For some reason at the bigger shows we seem to step up our game,” he said. “We’ve got some big races at the end of the year. Hopefully we can build confidence with the team, keep the car rolling well and have a shot at a couple more big wins.”

Last weekend’s All Star doubleheader began at Fremont Speedway on Friday, when Smith qualified sixth quickest overall and fastest in his group. He then advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race, which missed a spot in the dash by only one position. That lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“We gambled a little and missed the setup,” he said. “I was just too tight. I thought the track would go away more than it did. We went for it and what we tried didn’t work.”

Smith battled for a top 10 throughout the main event before posting an 11th-place result.

Saturday was more efficient for Smith and his team at the third-mile oval, where he timed in eighth quickest overall – fourth in his group – during qualifying. That put him on the pole of a heat race.

“I took advantage of that and won it to make the dash,” he said. “For some reason luck was on my side and I drew the pole for the dash. I dominated the dash as the track came right to us. The feature was my race to lose. I knew we were good, but when you’re out front you don’t know how good you are.”

Smith led the first 30 laps of the 50-lap feature before Christopher Bell powered into the lead for two laps.

“(Cody) Darrah gave me a run for his money early and then Christopher Bell and I battled the last 20 laps really hard,” Smith said. “After a fuel stop on Lap 30 he got around me at one point. He rolled the middle on the restart. It was a good move by him. The track sat there during the red and the moisture came back through. It was there for a lap. He stayed up there and it went away and he left me the bottom. I hit it and got back around him. It was a big win for us.”

Smith held onto the top spot for the remainder of the race to score the monumental win.

He will return to All Star competition this Saturday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, and Sunday at Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Fighting Angels Foundation

Children with Angelman Syndrome (AS) do not talk and many struggle to walk. They have difficulty eating and sleeping. Every year, individuals with AS die due to complications from seizures, however large pharmaceutical companies are not focused on the search for a cure. Despite the rarity of AS, a cure for this disorder is not only possible, but probable. We know what causes Angelman Syndrome. We know that, despite its devastating effects, it’s an incredibly simple disorder involving only one gene. And we know that curing AS will have a profound impact on other related and rare disorders, such as Prader-Willi, Rett and Fragile X Syndromes, as well as much more common disorders such as autism and Alzheimer’s.

Fighting Angels Foundation, Inc., is an organization dedicated to support and fund research and raise awareness of the rare neuro-genetic disorder Angelman Syndrome as well as serving and protecting the needs of the 1 in 15,000 individuals affected by this disorder. Our inspiration is Joseph (Joey) Paul Moretti Jr. FAF focuses its activities through yearly fundraising events and the support of public donations from generous individuals and companies to help fund its cause. Fighting to Talk, Fighting to Walk, Fighting for a Cure is our motto! For more information, visit http://www.FightingAngelsFoundation.com.

“We need to find a cure for kids like little Joey who have Angelman Syndrome,” Smith said. “The Fighting Angels Foundation is a great foundation that raises money to find a cure for this syndrome. Hopefully in the near future there will be a cure.”

Smith would also like to thank Warko Group, S&S Speedways, Quality Roofing Supply, G.L.T. Electrical, CnB Chubby, Armbruster Racing Photos, Thunder on the Hill Racing Series, HP Engines, Pancho’s Racing Products, GME Steering and Vahlco Racing Wheels for their continued support.
