Fremont Speedway, FAST hand out awards

FREMONT, Ohio – Fremont Speedway handed out awards and point fund money at a gala banquet Saturday. The Kistler Racing Products FAST (Fremont Attica Sprint Title) Championship Series Presented by Engine Pro and the JLH General Contractor 305 FAST Championship Series Presented by KS Sales and Service also handed out point fund money during the event.

Prior to the awards for the top 10 in points in weekly four racing divisions at Fremont and the FAST series, track promoter Rich Farmer thanked all the staff, push truck drivers, safety crew, business partners, fans and race teams for their support. Scott Barman, Carol Biller, Sue Lohr, Christina Roepke, Brian Sabo and David Castillo were honored for their 15 years of service at the track. Mike Busse was given the Dedicated Employee Award.

Push truck drivers honored were Bob Lash, Scott Wagner, Randy Bomer, Dennis Potts, Greg Sherman, Mark Kirsch, Mark Lance, Harry Sommers, Leroy Miller, Adam Hill and Scott Leighton.

Farmer also announced the creation of the Dot Schilling Perseverance Award, honoring the former Fremont Speedway Promoter, who took over the track following the death of her husband. Sharing the award, presented by Shirley Kear, who took over the racing business following the death of her husband, were Sharon Burmeister and Marilyn Genzman, both of whom kept their sprint car teams going following the death of their husbands.

The Alex Burkett Award – honoring the late man who supported Fremont Speedway through his business – were given to Alvin Roepke of Vision Quest, Bob and Susie Williams of All Pro Cylinder Heads, and the Fremont Federal Credit Union, which has been the title sponsor of the 305 sprint division for 15 years.

Later in the evening, the top 10 in points for the 305 FAST series drew names for prizes including free Hoosier Tires and gift certificates to Kear’s Speed Shop. The last name to be drawn – Kyle Capodice – received a free set of heads from All Pro.

Randy Mapus, one of the directors of the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame, announced the names of those going to be inducted in 2016 as voted on by the membership of the hall. Drivers to be inducted include Joe Keegan, Ron Leaser, Bobby Sears Jr. and Dave Blaney. Mechanic/car or engine builders to be inducted include Paul Kistler and Dick Willey. Car owners to be inducted will be Roy and Keith Pierce, Len Malloy and Vince Fisher; Supporter/life contributor to be inducted will be Larry Nuber. Mapus announced this will bring the total inductions into the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame to 99 and the ceremonies will take place June 11 at 2:30 p.m. under the historic grandstands.

Byron Reed of Monclova , Ohio , took home his third straight and sixth overall Fremont championship in the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints. He also won his third FAST title and became the first ever driver to win both of those titles and the Attica Raceway Park championship in the same year. Farmer noted Reed claimed $25,000 for the three titles.

Byron competed in 15 A-mains at Fremont in 2015, missing only the May 23 All Star feature. He racked up and incredible nine top five finishes and 13 top 10 runs. In fact, Byron didn’t finish out of the top five through June and wasn’t out of the top 10 until September. He recorded his 27th career Fremont win on May 2nd and added three runner-up finishes and five third place runs. Byron’s average A-main finishing position was a remarkable sixth. In claiming his second straight FAST title, he also recorded one series win in 2015.

Bobby Clark of Fremont scored his first track title in the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints, to go along with his two track titles in the 360 sprints. The 2015 FAST champion, Bobby competed in all 16 A-mains in 2015. He scored five wins – April 18, May 2, May 23, May 24, Aug. 1 – to run his career total to 34 to sit 11th on the track’s all-time win list. Bobby posted a remarkable 12 top five finishes and 14 top 10 runs. Besides his five wins, Bobby had a runner-up finish and a pair of third place runs. After an opening night 15th place finish, Bobby never finished worse than 10th until a 13th place finish on the closing night. Bobby’s average A-main finishing position was an unbelievable 5th. He racked up 3 wins in FAST competition.

Kent Brewer, Fostoria , Ohio , earned his first ever track championship in the AAA Ohio Auto Club Dirt Trucks, Kent competed in all 14 A-mains in 2015. He posted three wins – April 18, May 2 and July 25 - to run his career total to six. After an opening night 13th place finish, Kent did not finish any worse than fifth the rest of the season! That means he posted 13 top five finishes! Besides his three wins, Kent finished second three times and third three times – in 9 of the 14 features he was on the podium. Kent ’s average A-main finishing position was a remarkable fourth.

Dustin Sautter, Bowling Green , Ohio , won his first Fremont championship in the McCullough Industries 602 Late Models. Dustin competed in all 14 A-mains in 2015. He posted four wins – April 18, May 16, May 23, July 11. Dustin also had four runner-up finishes. Dustin opened the season strong, never finishing out of the top two through June 13. In fact, his worse finish was an eighth on Aug. 15th. His average A-main finishing position was an incredible third!

Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints, 10th-2nd in points

10. Craig Mintz, Gibsonburg , Ohio . Fremont ’s 2010 and 2012 track champion competed in 10 of the 16 A-mains in 2015. The 2009 and 2013 Kistler Racing Products FAST champion scored 3 FAST wins in 2015 to finish 2nd in points in that series. Craig scored a pair of victories in 2015 – June 13 and July 25 - to run his career total to 9 at Fremont . He recorded 7 top five runs and 8 top 10 finishes. Besides his wins he scored a runner-up finish and two thirds. Craig’s average A-main finishing position was 5th.

9. Tyler Gunn, Napoleon, Ohio . Competing in his 410 rookie season, Tyler competed in 11 of the 16 A-mains. He also finished 9th in the FAST points. Tyler racked up 3 top 10 finishes including his first career sprint car win on Aug. 1st. His average A-main finishing position was 13th.

8. Brian Smith, Fremont , Ohio . The track’s 2004 305 track champion competed in 15 A-mains in 2015 including the non-wing BOSS event. He only missed 2 A-mains, both All Star events. He recorded three top five finishes including a season best third on Aug. 8. He had 7 top 10 finishes. Brian’s average A-main finishing position was 12th.

7. Broc Martin, Wooster , Ohio . Broc, who also finished 8th in the FAST points, competed in 13 of the 16 A-mains in 2015, missing 3 All Star features. Broc recorded two top five finishes including his first career Fremont win on Aug. 8. He racked up 6 top 10 finishes. Broc’s average A-main finishing position was 13th.

6. Nate Dussel, Gibsonburg , Ohio . Fremont and the FAST series 2015 rookie of the year competed in 14 of the 16 A-mains, missing only the final weekend of racing. Nate also finished 7th in the FAST points. He recorded three top five finishes including his 17th career Fremont victory on July 11th. Nate racked up 7 top 10 finishes on route to an average A-main finishing position of 12th.

5. Stuart Brubaker, Gibsonburg , Ohio . A three time Fremont 305 champion and former FAST 305 champion and Fremont 410 rookie of the year competed in 12 of the 16 A-mains in 2015. Stuart also finished 6th in the FAST point standings. Stuart recorded three top five finishes including a season best runner-up on June 6. He racked up 7 top 10 finishes on route to an average A-main finishing position of 11th.

4. Dean Jacobs, Wooster , Ohio . Dean competed in 13 of the 16 A-mains in 2015, missing only 3 All Star events. Dean racked up 9 top 10 finishes including a season best 2nd on opening night. Dean, who finished 4th in the FAST standings, had an average A-main finishing position of 9th.

3. Chris Andrews, Sandusky , Ohio . Chris competed in 15 of the 16 A-mains in 2015, missing only the Aug. 18 All Star feature. Chris, who finished 5th in the FAST points, scored 2 wins in 2015 – April 18 and June 6 – to run his career total to 9 at Fremont . Chris recorded 6 top five finishes and 9 top 10 finishes. His average A-main finishing position was 10th.

2. Cap Henry, Bellevue , Ohio . Cap competed in all 16 A-mains in 2015 and also finished third in the FAST points. Cap, who finished just 10 points out of the championship, racked up an incredible 11 top five finishes and 14 top 10 runs. In fact, Cap opened the season strong, not finishing out of the top 10 through Aug. 1st. Cap scored his third career Fremont win on May 16th and also had four runner-up finishes. Cap’s average A-main finishing was an incredible 6th.

Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints, 10th-2nd in points

Rookie of the year – Kyle Farmer, Fremont , Ohio . Kyle finished 12th in points and competed in 11 of the 16 A-mains in 2016. His average A-main finishing position was 18th.

10. Jordan Ryan, Castalia , Ohio . Fremont ’s 2014 track champion finished 2nd in the JLH General Contractor FAST championship. He competed in 12 of the 16 A-mains in 2015, racking up 6 top 5 finishes and 11 top 10 finishes. In fact, Jordan only finished out of the top 10 once – a 20th place finish on Sept. 12! He racked up a runner-up finish and a pair of thirds. Jordan ’s average A-main finishing position was 7th.

9. Paul Weaver, Fremont , Ohio . A two time Fremont champion, Paul competed in 13 of the 16 A-mains. He racked up five top five finishes including a pair of wins – July 11 and July 25 – to run his career total to 36 to move into 10th on the track’s all-time win list. Paul also recorded 9 top 10 finishes on route to an average A-main finishing position of 9th.

8. Brandon Moore, Fremont , Ohio . Brandon competed in 15 of the 16 A-mains, missing only the Sept. 12 event. He racked up 3 top five runs including a season-best runner-up finish on July 11. Brandon ’s average A-main finishing position was 12th.

7. Jamie Miller, Fremont , Ohio . Jamie competed in 15 of the 16 A-mains, missing only the season ending event. He recorded 8 top 10 finishes including a season best runner-up finish on May 2nd. Jamie also finished 7th in the FAST points. His average A-main finishing position was 11th.

6. Seth Schneider, Fremont , Ohio . Seth, who also finished 9th in the FAST points, competed in all 16 A-mains in 2015. He recorded five top five finishes and 9 top 10 runs. Seth posted a season-best pair of third place finishes. His average A-main finishing position was 10th.

5. Kyle Capodice, Sandusky , Ohio . In his sophomore season of racing, Kyle, who finished 8th in the FAST points, competed in all 16 A-mains in 2015. He posted 6 top five finishes and 10 top 10 runs including a season-best third on June 25. His average A-main finishing position was 9th.

4. Steve Rando, Lindsey , Ohio . Steve, who finished 3rd in the FAST standings, competed in 15 of the 16 A-mains, missing only the Aug. 1 feature. He opened and closed the season with wins and posted another victory on Aug. 15, taking his career total to 8. He finished no worse than 7th through June 13th while posting 7 top five finishes and 12 top 10 runs. Besides his 3 wins he had a pair of runner-up finishes on route to an average A-main finishing position of 7th.

3. Alvin Roepke, Elmore , Ohio . Alvin, who also finished 4th in the FAST points, competed in all 16 A-mains in 2015. He opened the season very strong, finishing no worse than7th through June 25th. He posted 9 top five finishes including 4 runner-up finishes and 3 third place runs. He posted 13 top 10 finishes. Alvin ’s average A-main finishing position was 6th.

2. John Ivy, Fremont , Ohio . A 3 time Fremont 410 track champion, a 2 time 305 champion and a one time truck champion, John also finished 5th in the FAST points. He competed in all 16 A-mains and posted four victories along the way – June 13, June 25, Aug. 8 and Sept. 12 – to run his career total to 50 as he sits 6th on the track’s all-time win list. John posted an incredible 10 top five finishes and 13 top 10 finishes. Besides his 4 wins, John had a runner-up finish and a pair of third place finishes. His average A-main finishing position 6th.

AAA Ohio Auto Club Dirt Trucks, 10th-2nd in points

10. Eric Devanna , Kansas , Ohio – Eric competed in 13 of the 14 A-mains in 2015, missing only the June 13 event. He recorded 6 top 10 finishes including a season-best fourth on April 18. His average A-main finishing position was 10th.

9. Dana Fireball Fry, Clyde , Ohio – Dana competed in 13 of 14 A-mains in 2015, missing only the June 13 event. He recorded 8 top 10 finishes including a season-best three 6th place runs. His average A-main finishing position was 10th.

8. Jeff Ward, Sandusky , Ohio – Jeff competed in 13 of the 14 A-mains, missing only the May 24 event. He recorded 9 top 10 finishes including a season-best third in the season finale. His average A-main finishing position was 9th.

7. Dustin Keegan, Fremont , Ohio – Dustin competed in all 14 A-mains in 2015. He racked up 7 top 10 finishes including a season-best third on May 24. Dustin’s average A-main finishing position was 11th.

6. Keith Sorg, Fremont, Ohio – Keith competed in all 14 A-mains, racking up four top five finishes and 11 top 10 finishes. Keith opened the season strong, not finishing out of the top 9 through August 1st. His best finish was a fourth on May 2nd. Keith’s average A-main finishing position was 9th.

5. Brad Mitten, Fremont, Ohio – Brad competed in all 14 A-mains, racking up 6 top five finishes, including a season-best runner-up on May 2nd. He never finished out of the top 10 all season and his average A-main finishing position was 6th.

4. Cory McCaughey, Toledo , Ohio – Cory competed in 13 of the 14 A-mains, missing only opening night. He posted 9 top five finishes including four runner-up runs. He recorded 11 top 10 finishes and his average A-main finishing position was 6th.

3. Cory Ward, Sandusky , Ohio – The 2007 track champion competed in all 14 A-mains in 2015. He racked up his 24th career Fremont win on July 11. He posted 8 top five finishes and 11 top 10 finishes. His average A-main finishing position was 7th.

2. Matt Foos, Fremont , Ohio – The 2015 Attica champion competed in 13 of the 14 A-mains in 2015, missing only the Sept. 12 event. Matt recorded four wins – May 24, Aug. 1, Aug. 15 and Sept. 18 – to run his career total to 6. He also racked up three runner-up finishes and had 11 top five finishes – in fact, from May 24 through the end of the year Matt never finished worse than 7th. His average A-main finishing position was an incredible 4th.

McCullough Industries 602 Late Models, 10th-2nd in points

10. Jamie Miller, Fremont , Ohio – Jamie came out late in the season; making the last five shows where he posted a season best sixth on the finale night. His average A-main finishing position was 9th.

9. Brandon Perkins, Republic, Ohio – Brandon also came out late in the season and competed in 7 of the 14 events, posting five top five finishes including a pair of season-best third place runs. His average A-main finishing position was 5th.

8. Ky Harper, Delta, Ohio – Ky also came out late in the season, but what a second half of the year he had. Ky posted five victories including the final 4 straight and in the other pair of features he competed in he finished second. And who could forget his flipping across the finish line on the season finale to take the win. His average A-main finishing position was an unbelievable 1.2!

7. Jeff Hites, Tiffin , Ohio . Jeff competed in 12 of the 14 A-mains, missing only the May 23 and Aug. 15 events. He posted a pair of season-best fifth place finishes. Jeff’s average A-main finishing position was 7th.

6. Steve Sabo, Fremont, Ohio – A 4 time dirt truck track champion, Steve competed in 13 of the 14 A-mains, missing only opening night. He posted 8 top five finishes including a season-best pair of third place runs. His average A-main finishing position was 5th.

5. Dustin Keegan, Fremont , Ohio – Dustin competed in all 14 A-mains in 2015. He posted 8 top five finishes with a season-best runner-up on Aug. 15. Dustin’s average A-main finishing position was 6th.

4. Chester Fitch, Tiffin , Ohio – Chester , a former Attica limited late champion, competed in all 14 A-mains in 2015. He scored a pair of wins – April 11 and July 25 – and recorded 9 top five finishes. Along with his pair of wins, he had three runner-up finishes. His average A-main finishing position was 5th.

3. Tim Sabo, Toledo , Ohio . A member of the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame and the track’s 1978 Six Cylinder Sportsman champion competed in all 14 A-mains in 2015. He posted his 26th career Fremont win on June 6 and he now sits 17th on the track’s all time win list. Tim posted 9 top five finishes. His average A-main finishing position was 5th.

2. Dale Cole, Weston , Ohio – Dale competed in all 14 A-mains in 2015. He recorded a pair of wins – May 2 and June 13 – and had 10 top five finishes. Besides his 2 wins, Dale had a runner-up finish and three third place finishes. His average A-main finishing position was an incredible 4th.
