FREMONT, OHIO (Sept. 2, 2001) - Bryan Scott is one of the hottest sprint car drivers in the country in 2001 and he proved it Sunday by winning the richest 305 sprint purses in the country, taking home the $3,000 in the Second Annual Baumann Auto Group Invitational at Fremont Speedway.

Scott, the 2000 Fremont Speedway track champion in the 305 sprints, has now won 17 features during the season. Sunday's win was his eighth at Fremont Speedway.

Scott, from Castalia, Ohio, got around early race leader Doug Berryman nearly a third of the way into the 30 lap affair and threaded his way through lapped traffic to score the win. Scott started fifth in the 24-car field. The $3,000 first place money included $700 from the Baumann Auto Group and $200 in memory of long-time Fremont Speedway supporter Don Eckhardt.

Behind Scott was Attica, Ohio's Brandon Martin, who started ninth; Fremont's Bob Foster, who started 10th, Berryman and Brian Smith. Ryan Lowe picked up an additional $200 for the Don Eckhardt Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars in the A-Main> Lowe started 22nd in the field and finished 11th.

"I had to be patient in lapped traffic...the lapped cars did a nice job of staying in their line," said an elated Scott. "We figured we could win five or six features this year...but 17, wow, it's been fantastic. I have to thank Gressman Motorsports...I would have probably quit racing after last year if it wasn't for them and the engine deal we put together. I have to thank all my sponsors and especially my dad, who supplies the garage, and the tow vehicle and works his tail off on this car."

Bob Foster picked up $250 for setting fast time of the 51 sprint cars in the pits, a new track record of 13.94. The money was made possible thanks to the Last Lap radio program, a race fan contribution and $100 from Northern Vending, which also contributed $100 for the second quick qualifier, Brandon Martin.

Scoring heat wins were Foster, Justin Stout, Craig Mintz, Scott Kraylek and Brian Smith. Dustin Keegan won the Progress Plastics B-Main, and Jamie Miller won the C-Main. Pennsylvania's Judy Bates won the Chaney Roofing Out of State Dash. Brock Mayes scored the win in the Little Tavern on the Prairie fast car dash.

In the Dirt Truck division Jeff "Doughnut" Dougherty scored his second feature win of the season over Danny Roepke, who set a new track record in qualifications, John Rhoads, Greg Summit and Steve Sabo.

Winning truck heats were Roepke, Rhoads and Dougherty. Jay Boyd won the B-Main.

Fremont Speedway has a busy weekend of racing next week, as the All Star Circuit of Champions come to town on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8.
