Big weekend on tap at Fremont Speedway

FREMONT, OHIO (Aug. 4, 2001): Not many race tracks have the history and prestige that Fremont Speedway has. Known as "The Track That Action Built,'" the track will celebrate its 50th anniversary in a big way on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11.
On Friday, Schiets Motors/Honda will sponsor the racing with the 410 sprint feature paying $2,500 to win and $220 to start. The 305 sprints and dirt trucks will also be in action.
Gates will open a half hour later on Friday (5 p.m.) and racing will begin a half hour later (8 p.m.)
The track will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 11 with the Style Crest 50, paying $5,000 to win for the 410 sprint winner of the 50-lap affair.
The payoff for Saturday's show is one of the richest non-sanctioned races in Fremont's history with the following payoff for the 410 sprints: 1. $5,000; 2. $2,500; 3. $1,700; 4. $1,400; 5. $1,300; 6. $1,200; 7. $1,150; 8. $1,100; 9. $1,050; 10. $1,000; 11. $900; 12. $800; 13. $700; 14. $650; 15. $600; 16. $580. 17. $560; 18. $540; 19. $520; 20. $500.
"Style Crest Products is a great corporate friend to Fremont Speedway and a great industry in the community," said Jim Ford, Fremont Speedway promoter. "We've put together an outstanding purse that should draw some of the top cars in the area."
The 305 sprints will pay $500 to win and $150 to start the feature Saturday. The dirt trucks will pay $300 to win and $75 to start the feature.
Associate sponsors on Saturday include Steinle Oldsmobile/Pontiac/Cadillac/GMC.
Since opening in 1951, Fremont Speedway has had 286 different feature winners.
"Fremont Speedway has such a rich tradition. It was often said that if you could win at Fremont, you could win any where in the country because of the strong competition," said Ford. "We're looking forward to 50 laps of exciting racing."
