FREMONT, Oh. (July 14) - A couple of weeks ago, David Harrison looked like he would pick up his first career 410 sprint feature win at Fremont Speedway. An electrical problem put an end to that chance. However, he made up for it Saturday, July 14 by leading all 30 laps of the Miller Beer/Heineman Distributing feature to score the victory.
"The car was awesome tonight...there are so many people like Jerry White who do a lot of work on this car," said Harrison, whose dad, Daryl was the 1960, '61 and '62 track champion at Fremont.
Harrison was piloting his uncle Al's #44, sponsored by Harrison Trucking Inc. "I really have to say he's my favorite uncle now," said an elated David.
Behind Harrison was great battle for second between Clyde, Ohio's Phil Gressman; Millersburg, Ohio's Rob Chaney; and Fremont's John Wisbon. At the checkered it was Harrison, Gressman, Wisbon (who started 7th), Chaney, John Ivy (who started 16th), Alvin Roepke, Todd Heller, Jeremy Campbell, Mark Keegan and Dustin Daggett.
Heat wins went to Gressman, Keegan and Jody Keegan. Chaney took the win in the B-Main.
The night featured the return of 7-time Fremont track champion Jim Linder, who sits third in the all time feature win list at the track with 58 victories. Linder, piloting his son Mike Linder's backup car owned by Keith Brewer, also won a special four-lap challenge dash over his son, sponsored by Engler Printing. Jim, 58, retired from racing over 10 years ago, pulled out of the feature and finished 18th.
In the 305 sprint feature, Scott Kraylek of Fostoria, Ohio, celebrated his 35th birthday a day early by claiming his first win of the season at Fremont.
Behind Kraylek were Fremont's Dustin Keegan; Bucyrus, Ohio's Brock Mayes; Castalia, Ohio's Matt Karbler; and Fremont's Bob Foster. Bryan Scott, who has six feature wins at Fremont in 2001, came flying up through the field from his 12th starting spot, only to make contact with another car while battling for second with a handful of laps remaining and suffering a flat right front tire.
Scoring 305 sprint heat wins were Scott, Kraylek and Karbler. Jamie Miller won the B-Main.
In the dirt truck division, Jay Boyd scored his second win of the season. The Findlay, Ohio's driver took the checkered over Danny Roepke, Bobby Davis, Steve Sabo and John Rhoads. Roepke's finish was taken away when he refused a claim on his truck's motor.
Scoring dirt truck heat wins were Jeff Dougherty, Brian Sebetto, Davis and Sabo. L.J. Connors won the B-Main.
