Jim Linder Returns to the Track This Saturday to Fremont Speedway

FREMONT, Oh. (July 12, 2001) - It seems Jim Linder comes out of retirement as much as boxer George Foreman. The Fremont, Ohio native will once again strap into a sprint car this Saturday, July 14 at Fremont Speedway.
Linder, who sits third in the all-time career feature win list at "The Track That Action Built" with 58 victories (behind Art Ball with 65 feature wins and Gug Keegan with 62 wins), will be driving a backup car for Keith Brewer Motorsports. Jim's son, Mike, drives Brewer's primary #3 sprint car.
According to Mike Linder, this event has been planned since the beginning of the season, and lots of friendly jabs have been exchanged between father and son.
"I have always wanted to race against my dad...he's always been the person I've looked up to and admired the most. It will be fun to run side by side with him," said Mike.
Linder "retired" from racing around 15 years ago. That was short-lived, as he was soon racing one of Mark Keegan's backup cars and winning at Attica Raceway Park. However, Jim hasn't run in a competitive race in a number of years.
Jim Linder has seven sprint car track championships to his credit at Fremont Speedway - 1965, 1969, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1982, and 1983.
"We're really looking forward to Jim's return. He's been at the track every week, helping the younger drivers out...now he can really show them he knows what he's talking about," said Fremont Speedway promoter Jim Ford. "Jim Linder has always been a tough competitor...he's always very focused when he's in a sprint car. This should be a real fan treat."

This Saturday's race at Fremont Speedway is sponsored by Miller Beer and Heineman Distributing out of Port Clinton, Ohio. The 410 sprint feature pays $2,500 to win. The popular 305 sprints will also be in action as will the ever-growing dirt trucks. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with racing scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
