FREMONT, Oh. (June 23, 2001) - Mark Keegan scored his second win of 2001 at Fremont Speedway Saturday night on a fast and tacky surface. It marked the 53rd career feature win for Keegan at "The Track That Action Built," leaving him just one feature win away from tying Herbie Robinson for fourth on the all-time win list at the track.

"We're finally getting our act together...and just in time for Speedweek," said Keegan, an eight-time track champion. "The track was very fast tonight. The car was so tight, I nearly blasted the back stretch wall coming out of turn two. I had a hard time in lapped traffic because I was so tight."

Keegan, of Fremont, started on the outside front row for the 30-lap feature. But, it was Fremont's Mike Linder who set the early pace. Keegan fell back to third, but was soon on the move. He and Linder fought through lapped traffic before Keegan made his winning move in turns one and two a little over a third of the way into the race.

Behind Keegan at the checkered were Bettsville, Ohio's David Harrison, Whitehouse, Ohio's Todd Heller, who started 10th, Fremont's John Ivy, and Clyde, Ohio's Phil Gressman.

Heat wins went to Bob Lime of North Olmsted, Ohio; Linder and Fremont's John Wisbon. Alvin Roepke of Elmore, Ohio, set fast time of the 27 cars qualifying.

In the 305 feature, Bucyrus, Ohio's Brock Mayes led all 25 laps, but it wasn't easy, as Attica, Ohio's Brandon Martin stuck to his bumper the entire way. With two laps to go, Martin made a good run at Mayes in turns three and four, but fell just short at the checkered. Behind Mayes and Martin were a closing Matt Karbler of Castalia, Ohio, point leader Bryan Scott of Castalia, and Fremont's Bob Foster.

Scoring 305 sprint heat wins were Bill Kraylek of Fostoria; Mayes, Karbler and Scott Kraylek of Fostoria.

In the dirt truck division, Findlay, Ohio's Jay Boyd scored his first career Fremont Speedway feature win over Fremont's Brian Sebetto, Woodville, Ohio's Dan Roepke, Fremont's Jeff Dougherty, and Carey, Ohio's Greg Summitt, who was docked two positions for jumping on a restart.

Dirt truck heat wins went to Summit, Sebetto, Boyd and Fremont's John Rhoads.

The night's racing was sponsored by Burger King Restaurants.

Fremont Speedway will continue racing on Saturday, June 30 with Coors Beer Night featuring the 410 sprints, 305 sprints and dirt trucks.
