FREMONT, OH - A consistent Rodney Duncan led wire-to-wire Saturday night at Fremont Speedway to win the All Star sprint 40-lap feature. He outlasted a field of 56 cars to earn the $5,000 payday in front of a sellout crowd for his first All Star win of the season, coming over Kenny Jacobs and Danny Smith.

"Andy Potter, my crew chief did a great job tonight, and I have the greatest owner in the world, Al Harrison, and I'm just thrilled to death. We got off to a slow start this season, and hopefully we'll finish good," Duncan related. He also thanked promoter Jim Ford for rescheduling the race after a rainout two weeks earlier. His Eagle chassis used Kistler power and rode on Hoosier Tires.

Duncan started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole underneath Bruce Robenalt with Travis Rilat and Dean Jacobs in row two. Duncan took the lead over Rilat and D. Jacobs, with Rob Chaney next. D. Jacobs used the high groove to pass Rilat on lap eight, and began catching Duncan in lapped traffic. Chaney passed Rilat on the backstretch to take third on lap ten as Duncan still held command. Jason Johnson spun in turn two for a lap 12 caution, and Lee Jacobs stopped on the track on lap 13 for the only two cautions of the event. The order was now Duncan, D. Jacobs, Chaney, Rilat, Greg Wilson and K. Jacobs, who started ninth.

Duncan pulled away when the green reappeared with D. Jacobs and Chaney following him in the high groove as K. Jacobs used the bottom of the racetrack to take fourth. K. Jacobs took third on lap 16 and Duncan re-entered lapped traffic on lap 20.

K. Jacobs took over second from his brother on lap 24 with Danny Smith really on the move now, up to fourth after starting 19th. K. Jacobs kept creeping up on the leader, but Duncan stayed on top. On the final lap, Smith got alongside Jacobs, but a lapped car thwarted the pass, and he had to settle for third.

"I was just playing the lapped cars and trying to get to Rodney," runner-up Jacobs recalled, standing alongside his Jacobs-Honecker racing sprint car, which he tightened up more than usual for tonight's action. "I don't think I could have gotten by him unless a lapped car messed him up. He drove a heck of a race."

"I didn't think we had a change for the top five after starting 19th," third place Smith said. My guys had this car hooked up pretty nice and we had a chance of winning with a lap to go and a lapped car got in my way and just stopped me and that was it." Smith utilized local mechanic Mike Manes, from Frankie Kerr's crew of last season, as an extra helper tonight. Chaney held on for fourth, with D. Jacobs fifth and Byron Reed sixth after starting 21st.

Kelly Kinser finished seventh, winning the Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven award. Greg Wilson in eighth earned the $100 TW Metals nightly cash bonus, ahead of Chad Kemenah and David Harrison.

Jac Haudenschild's All Star debut for 2001 in the Nickles Brothers 31 ended early when he hit the wall on the start of the feature, flattening a tire. He changed it and restarted on the tail, but eventually dropped out, finishing 20th.

The K-T Equipment heat went to Jerrod Hull, the JB Enterprise Racing Products heat to Jason Johnson, the Crown Battery heat to Dean Jacobs, the Engler Machine & Tool heat to Kevin Huntley and Kenny Jacobs won the TW Metals heat. Bobby Clark won the Georgia Marketing & Promotions C Main and Rodney Duncan won the B Main. Jacobs also captured the Haulmark Dash. It was TW Metals bonus night, with Duncan in first, Reed in sixth, Jerrod Hull in 11th and Eric Hysong in 16th earning $100 bonuses. Also, John Wisbon, who finished in the last non-transfer spot in the B, also earned $100. The evening was sponsored by Fremont Fence.

In the 305 sprint 25-lap main, Roger Shammo led the first 19 laps before Bobby Foster took over. Foster, who started seventh, defeated Bryan Scott, Matt Karbler, Shammo and Dustin Keegan.
