FREMONT, Ohio – Bryan Sebetto made sure his son’s first trip to the races was a memorable one as he drove to his second victory of the season to pad his lead in the Kistler Racing Products FAST (Fremont Attica Sprint Title) Championship Series for the 410 sprints at Fremont Speedway Saturday, June 4.

Sebetto, who took the FAST point lead the previous night with a hard fought 7th place run from the back of the pack at Attica Raceway park, passed 2010 FAST champion Byron Reed on lap 14 and worked his way through lapped traffic perfectly for his 15th career victory at “The Track That Action Built.” It was his second win of the season at Fremont Speedway.

“It was rough in lapped traffic…they were all over the place. Those two old men (Reed and Jacobs) are in better shape than I am cause I’m tired and I guarantee they could run a mile,” said Sebetto in the Engine Pro Victory Lane. “I have to thank Tailgators Bar, Adkins Fence, R&R Auto Wrecking, Kistler Race Products and all the sponsors.”

“I don’t like to watch points…that’s when you get messed up. I just want to win races…I like trophies,” said the 28-year-old Fremont resident holding the Jon Wright’s Custom Chrome Plating Night hardware. “I want to congratulate all the people who were inducted into the (Fremont) Speedway Hall of Fame today. I have to thank the whole Burmeister family and Mikey, Mango, Jay and all the crew and the wives in the shop who watch Braxton all the time when we’re working on the race car.”

In the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints, Fremont’s Zack Kramer drove around race-long leader Jimmy Colvin with five laps to go and went on to score his second career victory. Last week Zack and his uncle Bobby Clark switched race cars and Bobby took Zack’s old ride to victory lane. So, the teams purchased a new car just like Zack’s old one and it worked to perfection.

“Thanks to Shirley Kear and Grandma and Grandpa Clark…if it weren’t for those guys we wouldn’t be here right now,” said Kramer beside his Fremont Fence, Jenny’s Copper Penny, B&L Plumbing, Willy’s Towing backed #8B.

At the half-way mark of the Fremont Fence & Guardrail Dirt Truck feature, Cory Ward, Steve Sabo and Jimmy McGrath Jr. raced three wide for the lead down the back-stretch. When they hit turn three all hell broke loose with Ward spinning and Sabo having to go pit side for repairs, handing the lead to McGrath. The Clyde, Ohio driver would pull away on several late race restarts before Bob Dible applied pressure the last two laps. McGrath would hand on for his second victory of the season and 7th career win at Fremont Speedway.

“I seen them get together so I ducked under as fast as I could and what happened is what I thought I would happen,” said McGrath beside his Winesburg Barbecue, Tower Driving Academy, J&F Miller Farms, B&K Auto backed #5jr. “We had some bad luck early in the season but hopefully we can come back. I have to thank all my sponsors and my mom, dad and grandpa.”

Prior to the night’s racing action 10 individuals were inducted into the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame in the third such ceremony in front of a huge crowd. Welcomed into the hall of fame were the late Leo Caldwell, Jim Fleming, the late Bud Gill, the late Dale Hasselbach, Shirley Kear, Harry Kresser, Tom Leaser, the late Wayne Maffett Sr., George Miller and Leroy Youster.

At the drop of the green for the 30-lap feature in the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints, defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer got upside down in turn two. Duane Zablocki would then grab the lead on the restart over Reed, Chris Andrews, Brad Bowman and Rob Chaney. Zablocki would spin in turn four a lap later, handing the lead to Andrews who drove around Reed on the restart while 10th place starter Sebetto blasted his way to third in just three laps. Reed would duck back under Andrews to regain the top spot on lap four with Sebetto driving into second a lap later 

A caution for debris on lap six would bunch up the field with Reed able to hand on to the lead as Sebetto ran right on his rear bumper. The car on the move was 11th place starter Dean Jacobs who used the restart to drive from 7th into third in just two laps. Reed, Sebetto and Jacobs would put on a tremendous show over laps 11, 12 and 13 with Rob Chaney and Phil Gressman rounding out the top five. Sebetto would dive under Reed exiting turn two on lap 14 to take the lead with Jacobs following into second. Sebetto would blast around the high side to maintain the lead as he hit lapped traffic by the 21st circuit, allowing Jacobs to close while Reed ran third and 15th place starter Brandon Martin moving into fourth.

Cole Duncan would stop on the high side of turn four on lap 24 to bring out the caution. Sebetto would have a lapped car between himself and Jacobs, however that machine went pit side. On the restart Sebetto could not shake Jacobs as Reed had his hands full with Martin and Chaney. Sebetto would drive off to the win as Jacobs, Reed, Chaney and Martin would round out the top five.

“Byron is so tough to beat. Him and Dean (Jacobs) are two of the best cars in the pits. We have a stout field of cars here. It’s tough to get up here and win. I drove my butt off…I tried giving it away after that last caution (with six laps to go). I couldn’t hit my marks to save my butt. But luckily we pulled it home,” said Sebetto beside his Burmeister Racing, JLH Contractors, Steven Mapus Tools, Schiets Motorsports, Big D’s Pizza backed #16.

Jimmy Colvin grabbed the lead at the drop of the green in the 305 sprint feature with Paul Weaver, Caleb Griffith and Kramer in pursuit. Weaver would find the high side in turns three and four to his liking and continuously put the pressure on Colvin. Meanwhile Griffith had his hands full with Nate Dussel and Kramer. By the 11th lap, Colvin and Weaver were battling side by side for the lead and behind them Griffith and Dussel raced the same way for third.  However, Kramer’s car soon came to life as he drove from fifth to third by lap 15 just as Colvin and Weaver hit lapped traffic.

Disaster struck for Weaver on lap 19 as he slid off the high side of turn four, losing several positions. Colvin now had to face the challenge from Kramer as Dussel and Griffith continued their battle for third. Kramer would drive around Colvin into the lead on lap 20 with the first caution flying fro a Steve Rando spin immediately after the lead change. On the restart D.J. Foos and Mike Burkin would get together in turn two for another caution. 

No one could mount a challenge to Kramer the last five laps as he pulled away for the victory. Griffith would get around Colvin to finish second with Dean Jacobs blasting from fifth to third over the final few laps with Colvin and Dussel rounding out the top five.

“I got too tight at the beginning but at the end the car started coming to me and I got faster and faster. I just hit my marks and was smooth,” added Kramer in the Engine Pro Victory lane.

In the 20-lap dirt truck feature, Cory Ward would grab the early lead over McGrath Jr., Sabo, Dan Hennig and Art Ball. Ward would use the low groove to pull away slightly as McGrath Jr. and Sabo put on a smooth driving clinic in their battle for second. At the half-way mark Sabo and McGrath Jr. had caught Ward and the three truck war was on. As the trio exited turn two on lap 10 they raced three wide with Sabo on the bottom, Ward in the middle and McGrath up top. In turn three Sabo and Ward made contact with ward spinning and Sabo suffering a flat tire.

McGrath Jr. pulled away on the restart while Ball had his hands full with Hennig, Bob Dible and John Ivy. Ball would get sideways in turn four on lap 14, hitting a tractor tire barrier and bringing out the caution. The running order with six laps to go was McGrath Jr., Dible, Hennig, Ivy and Jim McGrath Sr. McGrath Jr. could not shake Dible who drove to his inside each of the last six laps. But, McGrath did not bobble and went on to the victory with Dible, Ivy, Hennig and McGrath Sr. rounding out the top five.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, June 11 on Crown Battery Night with the 410 and 305 sprints and dirt truck sin action.
