FREMONT, Ohio – Bryan Sebetto drove the race of his young life. It could be compared to David verses Goliath. The 27-year-old Fremont, Ohio driver held off former Outlaw driver and defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer the last 14 laps of the feature to claim his first ever O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions victory on Kear’s Speed Shop Night.

Shaffer had actually gotten by Sebetto on lap 35, but a caution for a blown left rear tire for Randy Hannagan put Sebetto back on the point. He drove the high side of the track to perfection while Shaffer tried several times to drive under him but to no avail.

“This is incredible. To get my first All Star win like that in front of all these hometown fans…it’s just awesome,” said Sebetto beside his Steven Mapus Tools, Schiets Motorsports, R&R Auto Wrecking backed #16. “I saw Tim (Shaffer) under me, but I had to stay up top and keep up my momentum. I tried the bottom to get around lapped traffic but I just wasn’t good down there.”

“This is huge for mom and pop Burmeister. They’ve put so much into this sport and to have Sonny inducted into the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame next week and get an All Star win for him is very special. They’ve made me a part of their family. And to Mikey Sommers and Rollie and all the kids that come to the shop every night…thank you, thank you, thank you,” added Sebetto in the Engine Pro Victory Lane.

During the closing laps of the feature, Shaffer reeled in Sebetto using the low line, but two late cautions kept him from using lapped traffic to take the lead.

“Hats off to Bryan…he drove a hell of a race. That’s what it’s all about, putting on a great show for the fans,” said Shaffer beside his Kistler Engines, Kistler Racing Products #83.

Dean Jacobs, who ran in the top three the entire feature, came home third and is pleased with the progress the young team is making.

“Rich Farmer is doing a heck of a job with this place…you could move around, you could race it was a blast. Things are really coming together for this team. Big Matt is doing a great job with the race car. He’s one of my best friends and that makes it so much fun. Joe and Diane are doing everything I could ask as owners. They are giving me a nice race car. We keep going we’re going to get some wins,” said Jacobs beside his Northwest Ohio Towing and Recovery, NAPA Truck & Auto Center backed #97.

In the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints, John Ivy passed Steve Rando on the 17th lap using the bottom of turns three and four and went on to his 28th career Fremont victory, moving him to 12th on the track’s all-time win list.

“I tried to set him (Steve) up, but I kept screwing up. So I quit going to the bottom on the restart and started following. I figured if I could get close to him I could wait and he messed up a little in turn three and gave me the opportunity. My daughter won last night in the go-karts at Martinsville and I told her hopefully this is a sign of good things to come and it was,” said Ivy in the Engine Pro Victory Lane beside his Wendy’s Restaurants, The Pump Bar and Grill, Tailgators Bar and Grill, Adkins Fence backed #94.

The Emods made their first ever appearance at Fremont Speedway and put on a great show. Wayne, Ohio’s John Brooks passed Terry Hull with five laps to go and scored his first career Fremont victory.

“I was pretty nervous when I seen Terry was ahead of me. I just stayed on the bottom and waited and it worked out. I got my baby daughter here it’s the first time she has seen me race,” said Brooks beside his Government Logistics Services, Teeth by Heath, Valley View Farm Market, Graham Performance Engines backed #00.

Sebetto, who started on the pole thanks to the Pick 6 card pull by a very special youngster – his two siblings drown this spring in the Sandusky River – grabbed the early lead with rookie Jared Ridge right on his rear bumper with Jacobs moving into third. Sebetto road the outer rim to hit lapped traffic by lap 9 allowing Ridge to close while Jacobs had his hands full with quick qualifier Shaffer, Danny Smith and Rob Chaney. Sebetto picked his way through traffic and pulled away slightly while Jacobs caught Ridge for second. Despite being in heavy lapped traffic that were racing side by side, no one could close in on Sebetto. A caution when Danny Smith and Rob Chaney got together on lap 15 gave Sebetto a clean track and he used it to pull away. Meanwhile Ridge, Jacobs and Shaffer waged a tremendous battle for second with Brandon Wimmer moving from 12th to fifth.

With Sebetto in command and the race for second a good one, the big crowd started to pay attention to Byron Reed, who had won twice at Fremont in 2010, as he moved from 19th to 8th by lap 17. At the halfway mark, Sebetto continued to lead over Ridge, Jacobs, Shaffer, Wimmer, Reed, Mark Keegan and 24th-starting Randy Hannagan. The caution would fly on lap 25 for a Brock Mayes spin, just as Sebetto was once again hitting heavy lapped traffic and Shaffer had moved around Jacobs into third. On the restart, the power-steering pump would go out of Ridge’s mount, allowing Shaffer to take second and moving Jacobs to third. 

Sebetto built a sizeable lead, but Shaffer used the low grove to begin closing with eight laps remaining. Shaffer rocketed off the bottom of turn two to steal the lead after completing the 34th lap, but the caution would fly for Lee Jacobs, handing the lead back to Sebetto, Sebetto would not budge from the top shelf, and Shaffer continued to poke the nose of his sprinter under him, but it did not rattle Sebetto. The two raced side-by-side the next two laps before the caution would fly for Hannagan’s shredded tire, ending his great run from 24th to fourth. On the restart, Sebetto was able to hit his marks but Shaffer mounted one last challenge, but slipped up a little in turn three, allowing Sebetto to get away for the win. Shaffer, Jacobs, 15th-starter Greg Wilson and Ridge would round out the top five.

In the 25-lap 305 sprint feature, Steve Rando grabbed the early lead with Brad Bowman hounding him while Chad Wilson, Ivy and Bobby Clark battling hard for third. Bowman would dive under Rando to steal the lead on lap seven, but a lap later disaster struck as his right rear tire came off, handing the lead back to Rando. Rando would use the high line to lead while Ivy methodically drove the bottom to close with Clark right on their rear bumpers. The caution would fly on lap 14 with the running order Rando, Ivy, Clark, Bill Kraylek and Stuart Brubaker. On the restart Brubaker would dispose of Kraylek and then raced Clark hard for third while Ivy pulled along side Rando for the lead. Ivy rocketed off the bottom of turn four on lap 17 to grab the lead.

On lap 19, Brubaker drove around Clark and Rando into second and began to pressure Ivy. The two raced side by side the next four laps until they hit lapped traffic. Ivy used a lapped machine to trap Brubaker and give himself a little breathing room as he took the white flag. Brubaker wasn’t able to mount a last lap challenge and Ivy took the win with Brubaker, Clark, Rando and Kraylek rounding out the top five.

Eddie Shaner grabbed the early lead of the Emod feature with Brent Hole, Brooks and Hull in tow. Hole would drive under Shaner to take the lead on lap three. Following a quick caution, Hole would pull away while Hull would race around Shaner for second. Hole would slip up on lap eight, allowing Hull to take the lead. Brooks would drive into second on lap 10. A caution would wipe out Hull’s lead on lap 12, and Brooks used it to his advantage, racing side by side for the lead over the next three laps before driving around Hull into the lead on lap 15. Brooks would cruise the final five laps to the win with Hull, Shaner, Hole and Shawn Baylaff rounding out the top five.
