FREMONT, Ohio – Fremont Speedway
will kick off the official start of summer on Memorial Day weekend with
a special double-header of racing action, Saturday and Sunday, May 29 and
30 featuring five different divisions.
The weekend starts Saturday,
May 29, as Kear’s Speed Shop presents the first visit of the season to
“The Track That Action Built” by the O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit
of Champion Sprint Cars. It marks the 91st time the All Stars will compete
at Fremont Speedway. Last season, Danny Smith picked up the win on Kear’s
Speed Shop Night, and 2009 All Star Champion Tim Shaffer secured the final
two All Star victories at the historic fairgrounds’ speedway.
Shaffer currently leads the
All Star point standings over two-time champion Greg Wilson, Lance Dewease,
rookie Cap Henry and Dale Blaney.
The All Stars will have their
hands full, as three-time Fremont champion Byron Reed has stormed out of
the gates in 2010, winning both feature events at “The Track That Action
Built.” Other locals who have had strong showings include Phil Gressman,
Mark Keegan, Jody Keegan, defending Fremont champion Brock Mayes and a
host of young, eager talent.
Racing with the 410 sprints
will be the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints and for the first
time ever, the E-mods, who will run under UMP sanctioning. The E-mods will
also run for an increased purse of $1,000 to win ($500 for second). Stars
such as Terry Hull, who leads the points at Limaland Motorsports Park,
Todd Sherman, Shawn Bayliff, Casey Luedeke, Tony Anderson and more
are expected to compete.
Then on Sunday, the Fort
Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints will be gunning for $2,500 to win on Helms
& Son Excavating Night. The wheel-hiking late models are also in competition
(Attica Raceway Park purse) in a UMP sanctioned event, along with the Fremont
Fence Dirt Trucks.
Gates will open both nights
at 4 p.m. with racing underway at 7 p.m.
Camping is available with
electric and water hook-up across the street from the track for $15 per
night.
