FREMONT, Ohio - A lot is
on the line this Saturday, Sept. 12, at Fremont
Speedway. Not only will
"The Track That Action Built" crown its champions in
the Fort Ball Pizza Palace
410 Sprints, Fremont Federal Credit Union 305
Sprints and the Fremont
Fence Dirt Trucks, but the inaugural Kistler Racing
Products Fremont Attica
Sprint Title champion will also be decided.
The point battle is tight
in all three divisions coming into the Kistler
Racing Products Season Championship
Night. In the 410 sprints, Brock Mayes,
with his three feature wins
in 2009, holds a slim 11 point lead over
three-time and defending
track champion Byron Reed. Current FAST
Championship Series leader
Craig Mintz is just 12 markers back. Mayes locks
up the title with a fifth
place or better finish.
While the battle at the top
of the point standings is waged, there are close
point battles throughout
the top 15 as drivers try to crack the top 10 to
share in the season-ending
point fund.
In the 305 sprints, Todd
Heuerman locks up the title with a win or a
runner-up finish. However,
2005 and 2006 track champion Paul Weaver is only
four points back, while
defending champion Stuart Brubaker still has a shot,
just 37 points back. If
Heuerman does not make the A-main Saturday and
Weaver qualifies for the
feature, Weaver will win the title.
Again, positions 3-13 in
the points could change hands as drivers seek to
make the top 10 for the
point fund monies.
In the dirt trucks, Steve
Endicott, who has one feature victory in 2009,
locks up the championship
once he signs into the pit area and takes the
green in a heat race. However,
Art Ball, Bob Dible and defending titlist Jim
McGrath are not mathematically
eliminated as yet.
The FAST Championship Series
- a separate point fund from both Attica
Raceway Park and Fremont
Speedway - will reward its champion $10,000 in
prize money. Over the summer,
point races were held at both dirt tracks, and
Craig Mintz holds a 61 point
lead over Byron Reed. But, as Reed can attest,
anything can happen when
it comes to dirt track racing. Reed looked to be
crowned Attica's champion
two weeks ago, only to experience some trouble in
the feature, as the title
then went to Chris Andrews.
The points are close throughout
the top 15 as drivers work to share in the
over $58,000 in cash and
prizes in the Kistler Racing Products FAST Champion
Series point fund.
