FREMONT, Ohio - The roar
of racing engines will return to Fremont Speedway
after the Sandusky County
Fair on Sunday, Sept. 6 for the 10th Annual 305
Sprint Invitational, one
of the richest purses for those sprints in the
national, presented by All
Pro Cylinder Heads.
"Jim Ford started this event
to say thanks to the 305 teams for their
support all season. We continued
that by increasing our weekly purse for
that division this year...
most tracks were cutting their purses. If you
look at the drivers that
have come out of this division - Craig Mintz, Brock
Mayes, Brandon Martin, Mike
Linder, Kevin Lee, Cap Henry, Chris Anderws,
Phil Gressman, Jody Keegan,
Caleb Griffith, Brian Sebetto...WOW! Then look
at the mix of good young
talent and veterans who are teaching these
youngsters how to race hard
and sprint car racing has a big feature around
here," said Fremont Speedway
Public Relations Director Brian Liskai.
This race is shaping up to
be one of the most competitive in the event's
history. Of the past winners
- Bobby Foster, 2000; Bryan Scott, 2001; Roger
Shammo, 2002; Scott Miller,
2003; Paul Weaver, 2004 and 2006; Andy Shammo,
2007; and Todd Heuerman,
2008 - only Weaver and Heuerman continue to compete
in the Fremont Federal Credit
Union 305 Sprints. Weaver, the track's current
point leader, has recorded
three wins in 2009 at "The Track That Action
Built," including his most
recent victory in the 305/360 sprint challenge on
Aug. 15. Heuerman, who sits
second in the track's point standings, just six
markers behind Weaver, also
has a victory, back on April 25.
Others expected to battle
for the rich payday include defending track
champion Stuart Brubaker,
who has a pair of victories at Fremont in 2009 and
is just 31 points out of
the championship hunt in third place. Bobby Clark
has recorded two wins at
Fremont in 2009 as well and sits sixth in the point
standings just 49 points
back. Youngster Nate Dussel has recorded a pair of
victories in 2009 and is
fourth in the point standings a mere 39 points out
of first.
Others recording feature
wins in the 305 sprints at Fremont in 2009 include
veteran Bill Kraylek, Josh
Muntz and Brad Bowman.
Don't count out youngster
Steve Rando, who won the 2008 305/360 sprint
challenge at Fremont and
currently sits fifth in the track's point
standings. Also D.J. Foos,
who is in 7th in the points and has a win at
Attica Raceway Park in 2009,
and Jimmy Colvin who is 8th in the point
standings and recently nearly
got his first dirt win at Attica. Add in Shawn
Valenti, who has a win at
Attica in 2009 and veteran John Ivy who also has a
win at Attica, and the big
prize money is up for grabs.
The Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks
and the school bus races are also on the
racing card. Gates open
at 4 p.m. with racing underway at 7 p.m.
The season is quickly winding
down, with just a handful of races left at
Fremont. Saturday night
racing resumes on Sept. 12 as Kistler Racing
Products Presents the Season
Championship Night for the Fort Ball Pizza
Palace 410 Sprints, 305
sprints and dirt trucks. The Second Annual Jim Ford
Classic has become a two
day show on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19
with the 410 sprints and
dirt trucks on Burger King Night Friday, and the
All Star sprints and 305
sprints on Ludwig Propane Night on Saturday. The
track wraps up the 2009
season on Saturday, Sept. 26 as Hillside Billiards
Night has the 410 and 305
sprints and dirt trucks in action.
