FREMONT, Ohio - The two tracks
sit just a little over 30 miles apart. Both
have a loyal following of
race teams and fans. Both tracks work together to
ensure the teams and fans
have an affordable, fun weekend of racing. Now,
the promoters of Attica
Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway will put on their
race suits and battle each
other in two special match races.
Attica promoter John Bores,
a weekly competitor in the track's UMP late
model division, and his
son, Mike Bores, also a late model driver, will
battle Fremont promoters
Rich Farmer and Andy James, both, former race
drivers, in the special
match races. The Bores team will pilot late models,
while Farmer and James will
drive 305 sprints.
The first race will take
place on Saturday, July 18, at Fremont Speedway
when the Sunoco American
Late Model Series competes along with the 305
sprints and dirt trucks.
The challenge moves to Attica Raceway Park on
Friday, July 31, when the
410 sprints, UMP Late Models and 305 sprints are
in action.
"We got to joking around
about it and John (Bores) said 'let's do it.' We
felt the fans might have
a lot of fun with this. We looked at the track
records of both divisions
at each track and they are pretty close. While the
late models have more horse
power, they are a lot heavier than the 305
sprint car...I think it
will be pretty even," said Farmer.
"Of course John and Mikey
have a big advantage as they race every week and
Andy and I might get in
the seat once a year if we're lucky....guess we'll
see. Maybe next year Andy
and I will get in the late models and John and
Mikey will drive the sprint
cars," joked Farmer.
