FREMONT, Ohio - As Americans
prepare to celebrate the United States'
Independence Day on July
4, Fremont Speedway will honor those who have kept
our nation free - "A Salute
to Our Military Men an Women...America's
Heroes."
The Burkett Family Night
at "The Track That Action Built" will be a day
filled with food, fun and
exciting racing. The historic Sandusky County
Fairgrounds will open with
games, giant inflatable's, food and entertainment
for all ages at 10 a.m.
Each branch of the U.S. Military will have displays
and games like the rock
climbing wall. There will be a football toss game,
pony rides, a petting zoo
and Tim's dirt track racing simulators. There will
also be give-aways throughout
the day from Fremont Speedway and the military
branches.
Throughout the day there
will be several events held to raise funds for
military charities, including
the pit crew challenge. The Hoserville Ohio
gang - a group of race fans
who raise funds to help race drivers who may be
injured - will also hold
a bean bag tournament with the proceeds going to
the Jeremy Shock Foundation
(a soldier from Green Springs, Ohio who was
killed in Iraq) and the
Wounded Warriors Project.
When it comes time for the
racing action (gates open at 4 p.m. with racing
underway at 7 p.m.) the
military will take center stage. All military
personnel with proper ID
will get in free. A special honor guard, comprised
of members of Jeremy Shock's
unit, will present our nation's colors and
Fremont's own Sue Sebetto
will sing the National Anthem.
The Burkett Family will also
have many activities throughout the weekend.
The family has raised over
$22,000 for the American Cancer Society through
their Racers Racing for
a Cure, in honor of patriarch Alex Burkett who
passed away last year from
cancer. Not only is the family sponsoring the
night's racing, but on Sunday,
July 5, they will hold their second annual
blood drive at the fairgrounds,
with food, fun, racing displays, raffles and
more.
Let's not forget the great
racing featuring the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410
Sprints, Fremont Federal
Credit Union 305 Sprints and Fremont Fence Dirt
Trucks. To add to the excitement,
it's another Kistler Racing Products
Fremont Attica Sprint Title
Championship Series event. The battle for the
Kistler Cup is tight, with
Byron Reed holding a very slim lead in the
standings. The FAST Series
will award over $50,000 in cash and contingency
awards at the end of the
season and is a separate point fund from both
Attica and Fremont who will
each crown their own champions.
