Attention Returns To FAST Week #3 After A Week Off
MAUMEE, OH (5-13-09) by Scott
Porter - FAST Public Relations
>
> With a weekend off from
Kistler Racing Products F.A.S.T. competition,
> many of the regional series
stars took advantage of the time off to
> trek to other venues around
the Buckeye State & beyond to get their
> sprint car racing fix.
>
> It wasn’t just mother
nature that was unpleasant to several
> F.A.S.T. competitors while
at Eldora Speedway for a double-header of
> the World of Outlaws Sprint
Car racing. Caleb Griffith suffered rear
> end problems ending his
night just after hot laps on Friday and
> Dalton, Ohio’s Lee Jacobs
lost his 410 cubic inch power plant aboard
> the #59 Southern Crane
machine while running in 2nd place during his
> heat race. Both problems
proved to be too severe and forced the teams
> to pack up and leave the
famed half-mile on Friday night before the
> rains came. Brock Mayes
was waiting for the B-Main to get lined up
> when the skies opened
for the heavy rain that forced the cancellation
> of Friday night’s event.
The #7K Jessup Motorsports ride of Rob
> Chaney & the #9X SC
Racing mount of Phil Gressman were also in
> attendance both nights
at “The Big E.” During the only full night
> of racing on Saturday,
Chaney with the help of a 2nd place finish in
> the B-Main transferred
to the 30-lap finale and came away with a 24th
> place finish. Gressman,
however, transferred out his heat race and
> went on to collect a 15th
place finish against many of the finest 410
> drivers in the nation.
>
> May 2nd F.A.S.T. feature
winner Craig Mintz’s original plans of
> heading to Skyline Speedway
in Stewart, Ohio on Friday night were
> washed out, but it didn’t
stop the team from finding a track to race
> at. The Real-Geese Decoys/
Keller Chevrolet #09 team hightailed it out
> to Western Pennsylvania’s
Lernerville Speedway to compete in the
> sprint car division of
the track’s “Fab Four” weekly program.
> The Gibsonburg, Ohio native
was competitive in his first night out at
> Lernerville this season
and picked up a top-five finish in what Mintz
> hopes will not be his
last visit to Lernerville this season.
>
> F.A.S.T. Rookie Kevin
Lee tried to run all the laps he could this
> past weekend. First Kevin
pulled his 305 sprint car ride out of the
> garage to compete in the
Fremont Fence 305 division at Attica where he
> collected a sixth place
finish on Friday and then attempted to run
> double duty in both the
305 and 410 sprint car divisions at Fremont
> Speedway the following
night. Transferring from both B-Mains, Lee
> collected a 10th place
finish in the 305s and had a 16th place run
> aboard his 3J Motorsports
sprint car.
>
> Numerous F.A.S.T. title
hopefuls returned to Fremont Speedway on
> Saturday night for a regular
night of racing as the hunt continued for
> the 2009 Fremont Track
Championship. Brock Mayes redeemed himself by
> collecting his first feature
win of the season after hunting down Mike
> Linder in traffic late
in the race. Craig Keel continued to improve
> behind the wheel of the
#20X UPS Store/ BK Motorsports sprint car by
> collecting a 4th-place
finish.
>
> Attention returns to the
F.A.S.T. Kistler Cup points race as
> Monclova, Ohio's Byron
Reed, with the help of three top-10 finishes,
> currently holds a slim
points lead over Brandon Martin by just nine
> points. Craig Mintz holds
down third place, while rookie contender Cap
> Henry and veteran Mike
Linder round out the top-five. The points race
> is a tight one with one
wrong move or one faulty part possibly costing
> a competitor numerous
positions on the track and hurting their quest
> for the $10,000 top prize
awarded to the inaugural champion of the
> Kistler Racing Products
Fremont/ Attica Sprint Title.
>
> The Kistler Racing Products
F.A.S.T. Championship Series returns to
> action this weekend with
the competitors in their 410 sprint cars
> first tackling the 1/3-mile
of Attica Raceway Park on Friday night.
> Attica will be honoring
its all-time feature winner and 12-time track
> champion as Custom Chrome
Plating presents "Mark Keegan Night". The
> championship series will
then make the trek down the Ohio Turnpike to
> Fremont Speedway for Night
#6 of the Kistler Cup Chase. Be sure to
> make it out to the track
to watch the drama play out at well over 100
> MPH!
