FREMONT, Ohio - David Harrison
is having a dream season. The Burgeon, Ohio
driver had the large crowd
on its feet Saturday at Fremont Speedway as he
passed Mike Dassel coming
down for the white flag and went on to score his
third win of the season
on Kistler Race Engines/Burger King Night at "The
Track That Action Built."
Harrison had a fantastic
weekend, having also won Friday night at Attica
Raceway Park. He now has
five victories in 2008.
"This is a dream season....I
haven't had anything like this since 1993,"
said Harrison in the Engine
Pro Victory Lane beside his Crown Battery, MCS
Trucking, Blaster Racing
backed #10. "Dee Gunman has given us everything we
need to get to the front
and my crew has given me such good race cars...I
just can't screw it up."
"It was one of those deals
again tonight where you're better off to be in
second in lapped traffic
and wait for the leader to make a move and take
advantage and that's what
we did," added Harrison.
Dustin Dina has been hounded
by bad luck all year, but the Fremont, Ohio
driver put it all together
to end up in the Engine Pro Victory Lane in the
non-stop Fremont Federal
Credit Union 305 Sprints' feature. He held off a
last lap challenge from
Todd Feuerman and Duane Saluki to capture his third
career win at Fremont Speedway.
"With the luck we've been
having, I was just waiting for something bad to
happen. I got caught up
thinking too much and not paying attention to
hitting my marks. When I
heard (Feuerman) coming there at the end...that got
me focused again," said
Dina beside his Madison Street Tavern, Quality
Welding, Tanks Meats, Johnson's
Hunting & Fishing backed sprint car.
Wayne, Ohio's Dwight Walter
picked his way through a last lap crash coming
down for the checkered flag,
and beat Cory Ward by a fender to capture the
Fremont Fence Dirt Truck
feature. Ward had accepted the Fremont Speedway
Shuffle and moved from 10th
starting spot to 12th for the possibility of
picking up a $500 bonus
if he could win.
"Cory was racing me hard...he
was trying to get that bonus and when we came
out of four...there were
trucks everywhere and we were picking our way
through and it was close,"
said Walter in the Engine Pro Victory Lane beside
his CA Customs, Graham Racing
Engines, Mitchell Agronomics, Machine Control
Resources backed truck.
The 30-lap feature for the
Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints got off to a
rough start, as Chris Andrews
got upside down (he was not injured),
collecting Troy Viccaro
and Scott Euler. On the ensuing restart, front row
starters Mike Dussel and
Phil Gressman got together with Gressmen flipping
violently down the front
stretch - he was okay.
Dussel grabed the lead on
the third restart with Cole Duncan, Mike Linder
and Harrison in tow. With
a lap in the books, Chad Geoff got upside down (he
was okay). Just three laps
later, Jamie Miller jumped the cushion in turn
two and flipped (not injured).
Then the race found a groove
and would go green the rest of the way.
Dussel checked out while
Cole Duncan and Harrison battled for second with
Linder, Blake Feese and
Byron Reed putting on a whale of a show for fourth.
Dussel would hit lapped
traffic by lap 11 and still was comfortably out
front while Duncan and Harrison
continued their wicked battle for second and
Feese moved into fourth
With just eight laps remaining,
lapped traffic was beginning to take its
toll on Dussel as Duncan
and Harrison closed in. Harrison would sneak by the
young Duncan on lap 27 and
dove under Dussel exiting turn four as the white
flag was waving. Harrison
would win his 9th career feature at Fremont with
Dussel, Duncan, Reed and
Feese rounding out the top five.
Dinan would bolt into the
lead at the grop of the green flag for the 25-lap
305 sprint feature with
rookie Zack Kramer, Bill Kraylek, Todd Heuerman and
Duane Zablocki running on
his bumper. Dinan would cruise out front with
Kramer comfortably in second
while Heuerman battled Kraylek, Travis
Hoffbauer and Zablocki.
Heuerman would move around
Kramer on lap 13 and begin to steadily close on
Dinan. Zablocki would move
around Kramer into third on lap 17 and make it a
three car battle for the
lead. You could throw a blanket on the top three the
remainder of the race and
when the white flag came out, Heuerman tried once
last ditch effort by diving
to the high side of Dinan.
That must have been the attention-getter
Dinan needed as he pulled away
slightly on the last lap,
leaving Heuerman to try and fend off a charging
Zablocki and Kevin Lee.
Lee had accepted the Fremont Speedway Shuffle and
moved from eighth startng
spot back to 10th for a chance to win an extra
$1,000.
When the checkered flew,
Dinan held a car length advantage over Zablocki,
Heuerman, Lee and 14th starter
Bobby Clark.
The 20-lap dirt truck feature
was once again a barn-burner. Kent Brewer
grabbed the initial lead
with Art Ball, Bob Dible, Waltermeier and Steve
Sabo right on his bumper.
Brewer and Ball would race side by side the first
four laps before the yellow
would fly. On the restart, the veteran Ball
drove around Brewer for
the lead, brining Dible up to second.
A lap later Ball led over
Dible and now Waltermeier. Disaster struck for
Dible on lap six as he spun
while putting pressure on Ball. On the restart
Waltermeier would drive
under Ball and the two made contact with ball
rubbing the front stretch
wall. Meanwhile Cory Ward had steadily worked his
way up from 12th and was
third by lap eight. and moved into second when Ball
made contact with the wall.
Waltermeier and Ward raced
side by sie the remaining 12 laps. Coming out of
turn four for the checkered
flag, backmarkers got together and were spinning
as Waltermeier and Ward
tried to pick their way through. Waltermeier and
Ward banged wheels coming
to the finish line with Waltermeier winning by a
fender. Steve Sabo, Steve
Endicott and Jim McGrath would round out the top
five.
It's an all-sprint car spectacular
at Fremont Speedway Saturday, Aug. 9, as
the NRA Sprint Invaders
come to "The Track That Action Built" to challenge
the tough Fremont Federal
Credit Union 305 Sprints. The Fort Ball Pizza
Palace 410 Sprints are also
in action.
