FREMONT, Ohio - Many veterans
of dirt track racing can remember the
days when the previous week's
feature winner had to start last in the
next week's event. Coming
from the back of the pack created daring
moves by the drivers, and
excitement for the fans.
Fremont Speedway Promoters
Rich Farmer and Andy James want to create
that excitement again with
a similar program. Called the "Fremont
Speedway Shuffle," the program
offers financial incentives for front
row starters to move back
in the pack to start the A-main. Each week,
the pole-sitter for each
of the three feature events - the 30-lap main
for the Fortball Pizza Palace
410 Sprints; the 25-lap main for the
Fremont Federal Credit Union
305 Sprints; and the 20-lap main for the
Fremont Fence & Guardrail
Dirt Trucks - will be given the option of
moving back in the pack.
If the pole-sitter turns down the challenge,
the "shuffle" option is
presented to the outside front row starter.
For the 410 sprints, the
front row starter would have to move back to
the 10th starting spot,
and if he or she should win, would take home an
additional $1,000 for a
possible $3,500 payday! For the 305 sprints and
the dirt trucks, the front
row starter would have to move to the row
behind the inversion for
that night's feature event, and should he or
she win, would earn an extra
$500.
"It's not impossible to do,
but it is challenging," noted Farmer. "Look
at last week in the 305
feature, Bobby Clark came from 16th to second,
so it can be done. Racing
is passing people, and we hope we have some
drivers that will accept
the challenge. It's all about giving the fans
fun and excitement...it's
about entertainment."
Farmer and James note the
Fremont Speedway Shuffle is in effect for all
regular season shows
and will not be in place for special events such
as the O'Reilly All Star
Circuit of Champions shows.
