Reed, Brubaker, McGrath crowned Fremont
champions

FREMONT, Ohio - Fremont Speedway crowned Byron Reed (410 sprints),
Stuart Brubaker (305 sprints) and Jim McGrath (dirt trucks) the 2008
champions during the annual awards banquet Saturday, Nov. 1.
The top 10 in points in the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints, Fremont
Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints and Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks took
home point fund money.
Also, Promoters' Choice Awards were presented to Bobby and Kellie Sears
for their work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Alex Burkett family
for their fund-raising efforts for the American Cancer Society, and
Mike Dukeshire and Tina Roberts for all of their work on the track's
July 5 Salute to America's Heroes...our military's men and women. The
Engine Pro Engine Builder of the Year Award went to Level Performance
and the Alex Burkett Business Awards went to Crown Battery and the
Baumann Auto Group.
Reed, the 2003 and 2007 Fremont champion, competed in 13 of the 14
A-mains during the track's 57th season of racing, missing only the
non-wind finale.
He recorded four wins on the year - June 7, June 14, July 26 and Aug.
10.
Reed, who has won the last four track titles at Attica, finished out of
the top 9 only once. Besides his four wins, he recorded two runner-up
finishes and a third. Reed’s average A-main finishing position was a
remarkable fifth.
Brubaker, of Helena, Ohio, competed in 15 of the 16 A-mains at Fremont
Speedway in 2008, missing only the season-ending nonwing race. He
opened the season with 11 straight top 10 finishes...in fact his worst
finish during those events was a 9th. More impressive, of the 15
A-mains he competed in, Brubaker only finished out of the top 9 once.
Brubaker, who also noted the
2008 Attica Raceway Park 305 sprint title, recorded 6 top five runs
with a season best pair of runner-up finishes. His average A-main
finishing position was seventh.
McGrath, of Clyde, Ohio, had an incredible season, never finishing out
of the top 7. He recorded a win on opening night and finished in the
top five
12 of the 14 features. His average A-main finishing position was a
remarkable fourth.
The rest of the top 10 in the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints were:
2nd - David Harrison, Burgoon, Ohio. The 1989 Fremont rookie of the
year competed in 12 of the 14 A-mains, missing only the Sept. 7 All
Star show and the last non-wing race. Harrison opened the season with a
win, scored the All Star Sprint Speedweek victory and visited the
Engine Pro Victory Lane again on Aug. 2. During the first seven shows
of the season, he finished no worse than 10th. Harrison’s average
A-main finishing position was eighth.
3rd - Mike Dussel, Burgoon, Ohio. The 2008 Rookie of the Year proved he
can wheel a 410 sprint car with the best of them. Dussel competed in 13
of the
14 A-mains, missing only the season ending non-wing event. He scored 5
top tens including a season-best runner-up finish and a third place
run.
Dussel's A-main average finishing position was 11th.
4th - Craig Mintz, Gibsonburg, Ohio. Mintz was “Mr. Runner-Up” in 2008.
Of the 11 A-mains he competed in during the season, he had 7 top 10
runs including three second place finishes and a third. His average
A-main finishing position was 9th.
5th - Mike Linder, Fremont, Ohio. The 2005 and 2006 track champion
competed in 10 of the 14 A-mains in 2008. Linder recorded 6 top 10 runs
including a season best second and a third. Linder's A-main average
finishing position was 11th.
6th - John Ivy, Fremont, Ohio. The 1994 305 sprint champion and 2001,
2002 and 2004 410 sprint champion competed in 11 of the 14 feature
events in 2008. Ivy recorded five top 10 runs including a season-best
fifth. His average feature finishing position was 13th.
7th - Chris Andrews, Sandusky, Ohio. The 2007 national 410 sprint car
rookie of the year competed in 12 of the 14 A-mains in 2008, missing
only the third race of the season and not participating in the non-win
finale. Andrews recorded three top 10 runs including a season best
fifth. His average A-main finishing position was 13th.
8th - Mark Keegan, Fremont, Ohio. The 8-time Fremont champion competed
in 10 of the 14 A-mains in 2008. He recorded 5 top 10 runs including a
season-best fourth. His average A-main finishing position was 10th.
9th - Brian Smith, Fremont, Ohio. Smith - the 2004 305 Fremont champion
- competed in 9 of the 14 A-mains in 2008. He recorded 6 top 10 runs
including a season-best 6th with the All Star Circuit of Champions. His
average A-main finishing position was 10th.
10th - Jody Keegan, Fremont, Ohio. Keegan - the 1996 305 Fremont
champion - competed in 8 of the 14 A-mains in 2008. He recorded a
season-best eighth place finish on route to an average feature
finishing position of 14th.
The rest of the top 10 in the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints
were:
2nd - Kevin Lee, Green Springs, Ohio. Lee made it an exciting
championship race as it came down to the last night before mechanical
woes cost him the title by just 16 points. Lee competed in 13 of the 16
A-mains, missing only opening night, the 305-360 challenge and the
non-wing race. He recorded 10 top 10 finishes and a remarkable 9 top
five runs. He picked up a win on Sept. 6 and added 4 third place runs.
His average A-main finishing position was 6th.
3rd - Dustin Dinan, Fremont, Ohio. Dinan was the only 305 sprint driver
to compete in all 16 A-mains in 2008. He recorded 11 top 10 finishes
including
5 top five runs. He captured his third career Fremont win on Aug. 2.
His average A-main finishing position was 9th.
4th - Duane Zablocki, Tiffin, Ohio. Zablocki had a break-out season at
Fremont. He competed in 14 of the 16 A-mains, missing only opening
night and the third race of the season. He recorded 11 top 10 finishes
including 5 top five runs. He picked up his first career feature win on
July 5 and added a runner-up finish a few weeks later. His average
A-main finishing position was 8th.
5th - Bobby Clark, Fremont, Ohio. Clark competed in 14 of the 16
A-mains, missing only the 305-360 challenge and he did not compete in
the non-wing race at the end of the season. Clark - the 1992 and 1993
360 sprint track champion - recorded 9 top 10 runs, including 6 top
five finishes. He recorded his 20th career Fremont win on June 7. He
opened the season with a runner-up finish and also scored a pair of
third place runs. His average A-main finishing position was 9th.
6th - Nate Dussel, Bradner, Ohio. The 2008 Rookie of the Year competed
in 14 of the 16 A-mains in 2008. He did not miss an A-main until Aug.
2, where he finished one spot out of the transfer in the B. He recorded
9 top 10 runs and picked up his first career win on July 26. He also
recorded a runner-up finish. His average A-main finishing position was
11th.
7th - Zack Kramer, Fremont, Ohio. One of the members of the most
talented rookie crop of drivers in the track's history, Kramer competed
in 12 of the
16 A-main events in 2008. He compiled 7 top 10 runs including a career
best second at the tough 305 invitational and a pair of third place
runs. His average A-main finishing position was 9th.
8th - Brad Bowman, Shelby, Ohio. Bowman competed in 12 of the 16
A-mains in 2008. He recorded 9 top 10 finishes including a season-best
second during the 305-360 sprint challenge. His average A-main
finishing position was 9th.
9th - Chad Wilson, Toledo, Ohio. The 2006 rookie of the year competed
in 12 of the 16 A-mains in 2008. Wilson recorded 7 top 10 runs
including a season best second in the nonwing show. His average A-main
finishing position was 10th.
10th - Bill Kraylek, Fostoria, Ohio. Kraylek competed in 10 of the 16
A-mains in 2008. He recorded 4 top 10 runs with a best of second on
June 7.
He had an average A-main finishing position of 9th.
The rest of the top 10 in the Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks were:
2nd - Cory Ward, Sandusky, Ohio. Ward, the 2008 Attica Raceway Park
champion, battled to the end to repeat his 2007 Fremont title run,
coming up
just 25 points short. He led all drivers in the division with five wins
in
2008, including a stretch of three in a row. He recorded 10 top 10 runs
with
9 of those being top five showings. His average A-main finishing
position
was 6th.
3rd - Bob Dible, Fostoria, Ohio. Dible had another consistently good
season.
In the 14 A-mains he competed in, he scored 11 top 10 finishes,
including 7
top fives. He scored a win on May 10 and added a pair of runner-up
finishes.
His average A-main finishing position was 7th.
4th - Dwight Waltermeier, Wayne, Ohio. Waltermeier also competed in all
14
A-mains in 2008, recording 11 top 10 runs and 7 top fives. Toss out the

non-top 10 finishes, and Waltermeier never finished worse than eighth.
He
scored a win on Aug. 2. His average A-main finishing position was 5th.
5th - Steve Endicott, Risingsun, Ohio. Endicott had a break-out season
in
2008, competing in all 14 A-mains. He recorded 9 top 10 runs, including
7
top fives. He scored a pair of wins while recording an average A-main
finishing position of 8th.
6th - Steve Sabo, Fremont, Ohio. Sabo, the 2001, 2002 and 2004 Fremont
Speedway champion, competed in all 14 A-mains. He scored 11 top 10
finishes,
including 6 top five runs. He scored two wins in 2008 and now has 27
career
victories to sit 12th on the all-time win list. His average feature
finishing position was 8th.
7th - Andy Maynard, Woodville, Ohio. Maynard competed in all 14 A-mains
in
2008 and recorded 11 top 10 finishes. His best finish was a second on
Sept.
6. He only finished out of the top 11 once. His average A-main
finishing
position was 8th.
8th - Art Ball, Tiffin, Ohio. Ball competed in all 14 A-mains in 2008,
recording 6 top 10 finishes and three top fives. Ball - the 1973 and
1975
Fremont late model champion - picked up his 69th career feature win on
Sept.
6 as he continues to lead the track’s win list. His average A-main
finishing
position was 11th.
9th - Brad Mitten, Fremont, Ohio. Mitten compted in 13 of the 14
A-mains in
2008. He recorded five top 10s with a season best 8th on opening night.
His
average A-main finishing position was 12th.
10th - Dave Gibbs, Republic, Ohio. Gibbs competed in 12 of the 14
A-mains in
2008. He scored 4 top 10s with a best finish of 7th on two occasions.
His
average A-main finishing position was 13th.
Rookie of the Year: Jimmy McGrath Jr. competed in 12 of the 14 A-mains
in
2008. He recorded five top 10s including four top fives. His best
finish was
a second on May 31st. His average A-main finishing position was 12th
and he
finished 11th in the point standings.
