Weaver takes home
305 sprint invite cash at Fremont
By Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio (Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006) - Paul Weaver has dominated the
305 sprint scene in Ohio in 2006. He continued his hot streak Sunday at
Fremont Speedway, taking home the $2,500 in the Burns Iron and Metal 305
Sprint Invitational.
Weaver has 13 victories to his credit in 2006, including 6 at Fremont.
He now has 20 career victories at the Track That Action Built, moving him
to 22nd on the all-time win list at Fremont.
"The track was very fast and you could run any where. I just tried to
keep the car straight," said Weaver beside his M&L Excavating, Level
Performance sponsored #1W. "Dee (Genzman) and I have talked about moving
up to the 410s next season, but it takes a lot more than just putting a
410 motor together...we'll keep talking it over and see where we stand
this winter."
Larry Kingseed picked up his second straight limited late model win
at Fremont, while Brian Arnold scored the victory in the Coors Light Dirt
Trucks. For Kingseed it was his 7th career Fremont win, while Arnold now
has five career checkered flags.
"We set the car up for a slick race track, but the Fords had a tacky
fast track. I just laid back in the seat and mashed the gas," said Kingseed
beside his Strawberry Hill Farm Market sponsored #21.
"This is a present for my new daughter who was born last week," said
Arnold beside his Burns Electric sponsored truck.
At the start of the 30-lap 305 feature, Weaver shot around front row
starters Stuart Brubaker and Bill Kraylek to grab the top sport from his
fourth starting spot. The first caution would fly on lap two wit the running
order Weaver, Bryan Sebetto who started fifth, Kraylek, Bobby Foster and
fast qualifier Chris Andrews.
Just as they hit lapped traffic on lap 8, disaster would strike second
running Sebetto as he made hard contact with the front stretch wall, ending
his night. The restart order was Weaver, Foster, Andrews, Brubaker, Andy
Shammo (up from 12th), Brad Bowman, Dustin Dinan, Duane Zablocki, Kevin
Lee (up from 20th) and Steve Rando.
At the half-way mark, Weaver had built a big lead, as Foster and Andrews
waged a torrid battle for second along with Shammo. Weaver, the current
point leader at Fremnt Speedway, hit heavy lapped traffic by lap 17, but
it did not slow him down. The final caution would fly on lap 26, with Weaver
having four lapped machines between himself and second place Andrews, with
Foster third and Lee now up to fourth.
Weaver would easily pick up the victory, with Andrews, Foster, Lee and
Brubaker rounding out the top five. Lee would take home an additional $300
for the Don Eckhart Memorial Hard Charger Award presented by KOT Trucking,
for passing the most cars in the feature event (moving from 20th starting
spot to fourth).
In the 20-lap limited late model A-main, Mike Bores would jump into
the early lead, with John Mayes Jr. and Kingseed in tow. Kingseed would
make his winning move on a restart on lap 8, moving under Mayes for the
lead. Following Kingseed across the line at the checkered were Mike Marteney,
Chester Fitch, Ryan Missler and Ken Hahn.
In the Coors Light Dirt Truck 20-lap feature, Art Ball would take the
initial lead with Steve Endicott, Arnold, Dwight Waltermeier and Bob Dible
in tow. Ball would feel the pressure from Arnold by lap 3, with Arnold
grabbing the top spot exiting turn two a lap later.
Arnold would power away for the win, with Ball and Waltermeier racing
side by side the entire race before Ball would grab the runner-up spot
at the finish. Waltermeier, Dible and current point leader Jim McGrath
would round out the top five.
In the first school bus race pitting CDL holders, Kevin Rhineberger
would score the victory over Dawn Horn, Richard Doleman, Annie Brewster,
Scott Dukeshire, Bill Fleming Sr., Cindy McCloud and Ron Reed. In the second
bus race - pitting race drivers against each other - 305 sprint driver
Scott Kraylek edged out fellow 305 sprint driver Rich Farmer, with limited
late driver Mike Bores, 410 sprint driver John Ivy, 410 sprint driver Brian
Smith, 305 sprint driver Bobby Foster, Ross Rollins and Billy Fleming Jr.
rounding out the finish.
Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 9, as Coors
Beer Presents the All Star Circuit of Champions, as current All Star point
leader Greg Wilson tries to hold on to the top spot over Brock Mayes and
Chad Blonde. The Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 sprints and Coors Light
Dirt Trucks will also be in competition.
