Lasoski takes Fremont
NST loot
By Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio (Tuesday, June 6, 2006) - Many wondered why a former
World of Outlaws champion and many time Knoxville Raceway track champion
would pay a visit to Fremont Speedway on a regular Saturday night show
a few weeks ago.
"The Dude from Dover" showed why Tuesday night, taking the Kistler Engines
Presents the Chuck Kear Memorial National Sprint Tour victory and the $10,000
pay day that went with it at "The Track That Action Built." It was only
Lasoski's second appearance at the tricky third-mile clay oval.
"That's exactly why we came here a couple of weeks ago. We were told
this place is a tough race track to figure out. You have to be smooth and
know how to work the throttle," said Lasoski. "We tried an experimental
Hoosier tire and it worked great."
"It's so good to win this at Paul Kistler's home town in front of these
great fans," Lasoski added about his engine builder as he stood in victory
lane beside his Roth Motorsports Beefpackers #83..
Aliquippa, Pa's Tim Shaffer jumped into the early lead at the start
of the race from the inside lane. While most drivers moved to the bottom
of the track, Burgoon, Ohio's David Harrison utilized the outside groove
to move from sixth and around Shaffer for the lead on lap five. The opening
laps were marred by a couple of yellow flags and a red for NST point leader
Tim Kaeding.
Harrison, who destroyed a car the previous week at Fremont, led until
lap 12 when Shaffer moved back around for the top spot in his Parsons Racing
Kasey's General Store #6. Shaffer would lead the next four laps before
Lasoski could follow Harrison's lead and move up top to take the lead on
lap 18. The Dude would slice his way through lapped traffic to lead the
remaining 22 laps for his third NST win of the year.
Harrison, aboard the Doug Ludwig Motorsports Crown Battery sponsored
#10 would get back around Shaffer for second, with eighth place starting
Butch Schroeder coming home third, 22nd starting Dale Blaney fourth, and
Shaffer rounding out the top five.
"This is a three-year-old car and we won a lot of races in it...it's
amazing," said Harrison. "To come back from destroying a car and having
a concussion...this crew worked their tails off and I can't thank the Ludwigs
enought for sticking with us."
The Coors Light Dirt Trucks were split into two feature events (odds
and evens in then points) and both 20-laps affairs were entertaining. Fostoria's
Bob Dible scored his second win of the season in the first feature, with
Dwight Waltermeier winning the second in thrilling fashion.
Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, June 10 with
Crown Battery Night featuring the Fort Ball Pizza 410 sprints; Fremont
Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints; and the Coors Light Dirt Trucks.
