Sebetto's 305 picks
up win at Fremont over 360s; Scott wins first 410 main
By Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio (Saturday, May 20, 2006) - Bryan Sebetto's night went
from good to bad to fantastic at Fremont Speedway Saturday as the Fremont
driver claimed the Third Annual Roots Poultry ASCS SOD 360/Fremont Federal
Credit Union 305 Sprint Challenge.
In the 410 sprint A-main, Clyde's Bryan Scott scored his first career
410 sprint win. Coupled with his victories in 305 sprint racing, Scott
now has 21 wins at "The Track That Action Built.
Sebetto - a 305 sprint driver - won his heat, but the motor in his Matt
Poltner owned sprinter blew up at the checkered. His crew loaded up and
went to nearby engine builder Scott Gressman's shop to finish building
a motor and installing the new power plant just in time for the start of
the 25-lap
feature. Sebetto - a 305 sprint driver - won his heat, but the motor
in his Matt Poltner owned sprinter blew up at the checkered. His crew loaded
up and went to nearby engine builder Scott Gressman's shop to finish building
a motor and installing the new power plant just in time for the start of
the 25-lap feature.
"This win I owe completely to my crew...they worked their tails
off changing motors. They even had to assemble the spare before we could
put it in," said an elated Sebetto beside his Madison Street Tavern sponsored
#01. "I can't say enough about Scott Gressman...he builds us a pretty darn
good engine and he opened up his shop to get us into the feature."
"My car owner went to watch the World of Outlaws....he isn't here tonight.
He was probably upset when we called and told him we blew the motor. Wait
until he gets this next phone call," added Sebetto about his second win
of the year at "The Track That Action Built."
For Scott, the win was even sweeter, as the Clyde driver destroyed his
car three weeks earlier at Attica.
"I have to thank Rich Farmer...he's put a lot of money into this. After
that wreck, I didn't know if we'd go racing again, but he told me not to
worry and we went and got this car from Mark Keegan. I told the guys after
the heat this car is better than the one we wrecked," said Scott beside
his Burns Iron & Metal/Napa Fremont Auto Parts sponsored #37z.
"Guy Meyers knows how to set a race car up for a slick race track...his
record with John Ivy proves that," added Scott.
Sixty-six cars made up the combined 360/305 sprint field. That, coupled
with the 37 Fort Ball Pizza 410 sprints packed the pits with 103 sprint
cars.
At the start of the 360/305 A-main - with 12 from each of the two classes
comprising the 24-car field - Tim Allison jumped into the lead with Cory
Seeling and Sebetto in tow. Sebetto's night nearly went from bad to worse
on lap 3, as he slide off the high side of turn one, but lost only two
spots. On lap six, Allison continued to lead over Seeling, with Sebetto
moving back into third, and Steve Rando in fourth. All eyes were on Bill
Kraylek and Paul Weaver, who started 15th and 22nd respectively, but had
moved into the top 10.
Sebetto shot around Seeling into second on lap nine, and slid around
Allison a lap later for the lead. At the half-way mark, Sebetto led over
Seeling, 13th starting A.J. Sleek and Kraylek.
The first and only caution in the feature would fly on lap 17 for a
stalled Mike Dussell. Sebetto held the point with two lapped cars separating
he and Seeling, Sleek, Kraylek, Rando and Weaver. On the restart, Sleek
slid off the top of turn one, losing several positions. While Sebetto was
building a huge lead, the battle was for second through fifth. By lap 19,
Kraylek had moved into second with Seeling and Weaver in tow. With five
laps to go, Kraylek - utilizing the low groove - moved into second, bring
Weaver into third and dropping Seeling to fourth.
That's the way they would end up at the checkered, with Rando rounding
out the top 5.
The finish break-down shows 305 sprint racers holding four of the first
five positions. Seeling would be the highest finishing 360 driver (fourth)
and defending SOD champion Tim Norman would be the highest finishing SOD
driver (6th).
David Harrison would bolt into the lead at the drop of the green for
the 410 sprint feature, with Mark Keegan, John Finsel, Mike Linder and
Byron Reed following. By lap four, Harrison continued to lead over Keegan,
with Linder moving into third, Reed into fourth and 7th starting Bryan
Scott into fifth.
The first of two cautions would fly on lap 5 for a Jamie Miller spin
with the running order Harrison, Keegan, Linder, Reed, Scott, Rob Chaney,
Finsel and Brian Smith. Harrison and Keegan would run side-by-side for
the next three laps for the lead.
By lap nine, Harrison had gotten away from Keegan, and the fans began
to notice the charge of John Ivy from 17th to 8th. By lap 11, Harrison
continued to lead, but Scott had moved into second, with Linder and Reed
following.
Scott used the middle and high side of the track to shoot around Harrison
and into the lead on lap 12. At the half-way mark, Scott hit lapped traffic
with Harrison now getting pressure from Keegan and Linder for the runner-up
spot, as Ivy had moved into fifth.
With just six laps remaining, the running order was Scott, Harrison,
Keegan, Ivy and Linder. Ivy's march to the front would end four laps later,
as he tried to move around Keegan for third he got into the lapped car
of Jon Finsel, spinning both machines.
Scott held a two lapped car advantage on the restart with just two laps
remaining and went on to the win. Keegan would get around Harrison on the
last lap for second, with Bobby Clark and Linder rounding out the top five.
Fremont Speedway has a busy weekend of racing on tap on May 27 and 29.
Legendz Sports Bar and Grill sponsores the racing action on Saturday, May
27 with the Fort Ball Pizza 410 sprints; Fremont Federal Credit Union 305
sprints and the Coors Light Dirt Trucks in action - the trucks will have
double features as they make up the main from an earlier rain out. Then
on Monday, May 29, True Value Hardware of Woodville presents the American
Late Model Series along with the 305 sprints and dirt trucks.
