Blaney Wins Chuck Kear Memorial

By Scott Hall

FREMONT, OH - Dale Blaney led wire-to-wire Saturday night at Fremont
Speedway in the All Star sprint Chuck Kear Memorial 40-lap feature. His
second win of the season paid $6,000 in an event that was run in front of
jam packed grandstands.

Only one caution slowed the action in the feature.
Greg Wilson started the event on the pole with Blaney alongside, ahead of
Jeff Shepard, Kenny Jacobs, Phil Gressman and Kelly Kinser. Blaney rode the
outside groove to the initial lead over Wilson as Jacobs fell into third
with Shepard fourth. Jacobs pressured Wilson for second on lap five, and
again on lap seven, but he could not get by as Kinser lurked in fourth.
Blaney entered lapped traffic on lap seven, and the backmarkers enabled
Jacobs to grab second from Wilson on lap 12. A lap later Wilson was again
the runnerup, and they ran that way until lap 16 when Kinser broke free of a
three wide battle for second to become the runner-up.

At the halfway mark, Blaney had pushed out to a half lap lead over
Kinser's No. 4k, with Wilson still third. Wilson retook second on lap 21,
but Kinser re-passed him a lap later.

The only caution flew on lap 31 for a spin by Lee Jacobs, erasing
Blaney's huge advantage. Kinser was in second for the restart over Wilson,
Jacobs, Shane Stewart, up from 12th and Shepard. Blaney jumped out to the
lead again when the green reappeared and Stewart made a great move on the
backstretch to get third. Jacobs followed him by Wilson for fourth and
Shepard was right on the back bumper of Jacobs.

As Blaney pulled away, Kinser finished second in his patented low groove
with Stewart third. Shepard passed Jacobs for fourth exiting turn two on lap
39 and slammed the door on Jacobs to keep that spot at the finish line.
Jacobs ended fifth ahead of Phil Gressman, Dean Jacobs, Paul McMahan, John
Ivy and Wilson.

"This track's been good to me this year," Blaney stated, standing beside
his No. 72. "We've had good finishes here. The car was good all night. We
made a few changes for the dash and everything went good all night. Fritz
Andrews and George Fisher gave me a great race car…it was a pleasure to
drive," he concluded.

"I was reeling him in there in traffic," runner-up Kinser recalled. "I
got to trying too hard after the restart. Our cars were about even, so we'll
take second on go on from here."

"I thought I could catch Kelly," Stewart said of third. "We had a really
good racecar, but ran out of laps."

The Crown Battery heat fell to Paul McMahan, the B&B Products heat went
to Shane Stewart, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Byron Reed and
the TP Wings heat fell to John Ivy. Chuck Wilson won the Georgia Marketing
& Promotions C Main while Dustin Daggett won the United Aluminum Window
Sales & Consulting B Main and Kenny Jacobs captured the Haulmark Dash. Bobby
Clark's fast time was worth $100, courtesy of The Hen House. It was also
manufacturer's night, with over $8,500 in product awards given to the 24
starters in the A Main.

Local favorite Mark Keegan smacked the frontstretch wall in hot laps,
forcing him to the trailer for the rest of the evening.

In 305 sprint action, Bobby Foster led all 25 laps to take the win over
Scott Kraylek, Brock Mayes, Bryan Scott, Craig Mintz, Scott Miller, Matt
Karbler, Steve Edwards, Keith Whatley and Josh Hill.
