FREMONT, Ohio (Aug. 1) - Fremont Speedway has a rich and
exciting history. "The Track That Action Built"
will celebrate its 51st anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 10,
with the Fremont 50, paying the winner $5,000.
Sponsored by Pespi, the 50-lap non-sanctioned feature for
the winged 410 sprints pays an incredible purse: 1. $5,000;
2. $2,500; 3. $1,700; 4. $1,400; 5. $1,300; 6. $1,200; 7.
$1,150; 8. $1,100; 9. $1,050; 10. $1,000; 11. $900; 12.
$800; 13. $700; 14. $650; 15. $600; 17. $580; 18. $540;
19. $520; and 20. $500.
"This is one of the highest paying non-sanctioned events
in the history of Fremont Speedway. It's a way to pay tribute
to all the teams and fans that have supported us and this
speedway over the years," said speedway promoter Jim
Ford. "With that kind of money on the line, we're expecting
some very stout competition."
There will also be a special dash benefitting the Easter
Seals organization. The dash, sponsored by Steinle Oldsmobile-Pontiac-Cadillac-GMC,
pays $100 to the winner; $75 for second and $50 for third
and fourth place finishers.
Last year Butch Schroeder, who had just joined the #9x Stan
Cortad team, claimed the Fremont 50 and the $5,000 payday.
Schroeder will be tough to beat this year, as he clearly
has found some speed of late, becoming the first driver
in the history of Fremont Speedway to qualify in the 11
second bracket, setting a new track record on July 27 with
a clocking of 11.972.
The 410 sprints are required to weigh at least 1,200 pounds
and run a Goodyear rightrear spec tire. Mufflers are also
required.
In addition to the Fremont 50, the 305 sprints will run
for $500 to win ($150 to start the feature), and the dirt
trucks will compete for $300 to win ($75 to start the feature).
Fremont Speedway is located four miles south of Ohio Turnpike
Exit 91 in the Sandusky County Fairgrounds. Gates will open
at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 6:30 p.m. and racing at
7:15 p.m. For more information, contact Promoter Jim Ford
