Ivy
Wins Speedweek Show #2 at Fremont
By Scott
Hall
FREMONT,
OH Man its awesome to win a Speedweek
show, John Ivy
exclaimed after he scored a hometown win Thursday night
at Fremont Speedway
in the All Star sprint Arizona Sport Shirts Ohio Speedweek
40-lap Miller
Beer sponsored feature. The $6,000 to win event was run
in front of a
sellout crowd and the program started two hours late due
to an afternoon
thundershower.
I dont think I could have run two more laps.
The stress of running out
front, trying to keep Dale Blaney behind me and trying to
keep the thing
straight
Thank God the yellows came out when they
did. Whew! Ivy said from
victory lane standing beside the Carousel Racing Kistler
powered Eagle on
Hoosier tires. Dale Blaney was second and Greg Wilson third
at the end.
Todd Kane was on the pole at the start in Dick Sabos
No. 8s with Rodney
Duncans Harrison Trucking 22 alongside. Kane jumped
out to the immediate
lead as Duncan began to fade, so Jeff Shepard took over
second with Phil
Gressman and fourth starter Ivy battling for third. Duncan
stopped on the
track near the pit entrance on lap four causing a caution.
He exited, as did
runnerup Shepard. This made the restart lineup Kane, Gressman,
Ivy and Mike
Wagner. Gressman jumped the cushion on lap six, getting
sideways and
allowing Ivy to take over second. Then Dale Blaney moved
around Gressman
with a dozen circuits in the books for third as Ivy began
to challenge Kane
in lapped traffic. Lap 13 saw Kane, Ivy and Blaney three
wide for the lead
at the flagstand with Kane leading, holding a slight edge.
The next lap Kane
drifted high and clipped the lapped car of Shawn Chaney,
allowing Ivy to
duck under and lead the race. Blaney and Gressman also got
past Kane, with
Greg Wilson now fifth.
Ivy got sideways in turn four on lap 18, allowing Blaney
to close right
on his bumper, but Ivy recovered in time to maintain the
lead. A red flew on
lap 21 when the ninth and tenth place cars of Kelly Kinser
and Mark Keegan
tangled, with Kinser flipping and Keegan smacking the wall.
Paul McMahan
changed a tire under red, sending him to the rear for the
restart.
Blaney tried to get Ivy on the restart, but Ivy fought back
and held him
off. The leaders got into lapped traffic again by lap 30,
but another
caution flew for a Byron Reed spin. Blaney got alongside
Ivy when the green
reappeared, but another yellow nullified the move, setting
up a nine lap
dash top the finish. Ivy pulled away on a clear track, with
Blaney second,
Wilson third and Kenny Jacobs now up to fourth. Ivy continued
to pull away
and won by four car lengths over Blaney, Wilson, Jacobs
and Mike Wagner.
Next were Gressman, Danny Smith up from 14th, Dean Jacobs,
Joe Gaerte and
Chad Kemenah who jumped the cushion on lap 35 and fell back
from eighth to
tenth at the end.
The only time I passed him (Ivy) the yellow came out,
Blaney recalled
after finishing second. Thats just the way it
goes.
The Crown Battery heat fell to Byron Reed, the B&B Products
heat went to
Paul McMahan, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by
Bobby Clark and
the TP Wings heat fell to Dean Jacobs. Greg Wilson won the
United Aluminum
Window Sales & Consulting B Main while Rodney Duncan
captured the Haulmark
Dash.
