Stars Sprints Make First Fremont Appearance on Sat. May

FREMONT,
OH When Fremont Speedway hosts the All Stars for
the first
time in 2002 on Saturday night, May 25, fans are anticipating
a fresh face
in victory lane. In the past nine All Star sprint car events
contested on
the Sandusky Fairgrounds oval, there have been nine different
feature
winners. Can the streak continue?
The
event is sponsored by Budweiser and pays $6,000 to win and
$500 to
start the A-main.
Starting
on July 30, 1997, the race winner was Joey Saldana, followed
by
Danny Smith (5/27/2000), Frankie Kerr (6/27/00), John Ivy
(9/9/00), Chad
Kemenah (4/28/01), Rodney Duncan (6/9/01), Mark Keegan (7/3/01),
Mike Wagner
(9/7/01) and Butch Schroeder (9/8/01).
The
All Stars first competed at Fremont on June 21, 1980 with
fan
favorite Jack Hewitt the race winner. Since then, the series
has recorded 66
feature events with 30 different feature winners.
May
25 will be the first of five All Star appearances at the
Fremont oval
this season, and the 305 sprints are also on the card. Other
All Star dates
include a pair of Ohio Speedweek events, July 2 and July
4, (Miller Beer
night, worth another $6,000) and a two-day show Sept. 6-7
with the Saturday
Chuck Kears Memorial and manufacturers night
event paying $6,000 to the
winner.
