FREMONT, Ohio (August 14th)-One hundred
and sixteen racing vehicles signed into the pit area at Fremont Speedway
on Fremont Fence Night. Forty-six 305 Econo Sprints, forty Coors Light
Dirt Trucks, and thirty of the 410 super sprints packed "The Track That
Action Built."
The Coors Light Dirt Trucks ran split feature events as the even
number in points ran a complete
show along with the odd numbered in points.
John Ivy picked up his 5th fast time of the season and also had the
fasted time of the year with at 12.05 second. The heat races went to Jason
Dukes, Mark Keegan, Brandon Martin, and Caleb Griffth. The B-Main
saw Lee Jacobs winning the 10-lap event.
In the 30-lap feature event for the 410s, Mike Linder started on the
front row with last week's feature winner on the outside and that was Mark
Keegan. Keegan jumped out into the lead on the first lap with Linder and
Bobby Clark right in tow. Clark and Linder duked it out for a few laps
and then points leader, John Ivy, got into the mix making it a 3 car battle
for third. Linder was able to hold off the challenges of Clark and turned
on the afterburners to catch the leader Keegan. The closest Linder was
able to get was with about 5 laps to go when lapped traffic held up Keegan.
Linder wasn't able to make the pass and Mark Keegan went on to win his
second A-Main event in a row at Fremont Speedway. Second was Mike Linder,
third was John Ivy, fourth was Bobby Clark, fifth was Greg Wilson, sixth,
was Byron Reed, seventh was Andy James, eighth was Rodney Duncan, ninth
was Todd Heller and rounding out the top ten was Keith Baxter.
Keegan is now tied with Jim Linder for third on the all-time career
feature win list with 58. He is just four back of his uncle Gug Keegan
and eight away from tying all-time career feature winner Art Ball.
In the 305 Econo Sprint heat races, Jamie Miller won the Fremont
Federal Credit Union heat number 1. The Foster Auto Body heat race number
2 had Barry Cole picking up the win. The Riverside Machine and Tool heat
number 3 saw A.J. Sleek rolling to victory and the Borer Glass heat number
4 had Mike Riehl taking the checkers.
On the front row of the 25-lap feature were the 22D of Dan Hammond and
the 48x of Mike Burkin. When the green was out Hammond led the way into
the first corner with Kevin Lee and A.J. Sleek right in tow. The red came
out on the first lap as Barry Cole got sideways in turn two and the 81
of Mike Riehl, 66L Ryan Lowe, and the 15c of Chris Andrews got together
coming off of the corner. When the race restarted the car on the move was
the 20x of Brian Smith who started 12th. By lap 10 he was already in the
top 5.
Andy Shammo got around Hammond and was trying to run away but Smith
would have no part of that as he reeled in the leader and passed him with
5 to go and went on for the feature event win. Brian shared his special
night with his father who came up all the way from Florida. Second was
Andy Shammo, third was Paul Weaver, fourth was Bryan Sebetto, fifth was
Bill Kraylek, sixth was Kevin Lee, seventh was Bryan Scott, eighth was
Bobby Foster, ninth was Dan Hammond, and tenth was Barry Cole.
For the Coors Light Dirt Trucks the odd numbered in points raced first
and the heats went to Brian Arnold and Dan Roepke. In the even numbered
in points, the heats went to Joe Hartlaub and Paul Dymond.
Dan Roepke lead the majority of the races in the odd number feature
event as he was able to pick up his first feature win of the 2004 season
at Fremont Speedway. In the even numbered feature event Ralph Willey picked
up his first ever feature event win at Fremont Speedway as he held off
a hard charging Bobby Davis.
