Maffett claims
Fremont late model win;
Weaver takes 305 sprints;
Dymond wins trucks

FREMONT, Ohio (May 31, 2004) - Wayne Maffett Jr. watched his late father
win 44 features at Fremont Speedway - good for seventh on the all-time
win list at "The Track That Action Built." The young Mansfield, Ohio driver
used the knowledge he gleaned from his dad to pick up the Sunoco American
Late Model Series victory at Fremont Monday.
"It was a one-groove, bottom-of-the-race-track deal tonight, and my
dad was one of the best when it came to getting your nose under someone
to get by them. I just learned how to drive this race track from him. I
love coming to Fremont...the fans are so great here," said Maffett, who
scored his 12 career feature win at the speedway. "I'm dedicating this
win to my dad. I'm so glad I can carry his number 40 on and win races with
it."
Maffett took the lead from Eric Myers early in the event when Myers
drifted just a bit high coming out of turn two, allowing the eventual winner
to wedge his way to the front. Maffett survived two restarts and pulled
away for the easy win on True Value Hardware of Woodville Night, over Myers,
Kris Patterson, Matt Miller and Greg Martin.
Miller bested the 52-car field in qualifications, with the heat wins
going to Miller, Steve Casebolt, Bryan Ruhlman, Myers and Rick DeLong.
In the 305 sprint action, Fremont's Paul Weaver jumped into the lead
from his pole starting spot, and held on to edge Gibsonburg's Roger Shammo,
Fremont's Ryan Lowe, Fostoria's Bill Kraylek and Fremont's Brian Sebetto.
"I have to thank Ken Meggett...it's his motor in the car. Without him
we wouldn't be racing," said Weaver standing beside his Strawberry Hill
Farm Market/Griff's Engines entry. "I have to thank my wife...this is her
car."
It was Weaver's sixth career feature win at Fremont Speedway.
Heat wins went to Sebetto, Stuart Brubaker, Lowe and Shawn Chaney.
Sebetto scored the win in the Computer Man Dash.
In the crash-filled Coors Light Dirt Truck feature, Paul Dymond of Tiffin
hung on for the win, his second career victory at Fremont, over Fremont's
Bobby Davis, Art Howey Jr., Andy Maynard and David Severs.
Heat wins went to Dymond, Cory Ward, Brian Arnold and Dan Roepke.
Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, June 5, with Beck
Oil and Willie's Sales and Service Toro Lawn Mower Night, paying the 410
sprints $3,000 to win ($300 to start), the 305 sprints running for $600
to win and the Coors Light Dirt Trucks running for $400 to win.
