Byron
Reed Redeems Himself At Fremont
By Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio (June 28, 2003) - Byron Reed didn't know where he was
after a
nasty flip at Fremont Speedway last Thursday. But, he found victory
lane
alright this past Saturday as he picked up his second feature win of
the
season on Beck Oil Night.
Reed, who crashed hard two weeks ago at Fremont and again at the USAC
show
on Thursday, June 19, redeemed himself by holding off a hard-charging
Mark
Keegan and David Harrison for the victory.
"We had a good season going here until a couple of weeks ago and we
nearly
ruined everything," said Reed who hails from Monclova, Ohio. "We really
needed this going into speedweek."
Fremont's David Harrison paced the field for the first 18 laps before
Reed
made his move. Reed got bottled up in lapped traffic and Fremont's
Mark
Keegan moved in on his bumper as five laps to go went on the scoreboard.
Reed cleared the lapped markers and cruised to the win. Keegan, Harrison,
Lee Jacobs (up from 13th starting spot) and John Ivy rounded out the
top
five.
Jamie Miller made it a clean sweep for the weekend, winning his third
feature of the season at Fremont in the 305 sprints (he also won Friday
night at Attica Raceway Park). Rounding out the top five were Scott
Miller,
Andy Shammo; Roger Shammo (up from 17th) and Bill Kraylek.
Paul Diamond won a time-shortened dirt truck feature. It was the Tiffin
driver's first career feature win as waged a ferious battle with Steve
Sabo
and Greg Summit. Rex Wright and Brian Arnold rounded out the top five.
Fremont Speedway will be back in action Tuesday, July 1 with the third
leg
of the All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Sprint Speedweek, and on
Thursday,
July 3 with the fifth leg of speedweek.
