FREMONT, Ohio
– Race people
take care of
others.
Simple and to
the point.
The tornado
that
devastated
Oklahoma this
past week
effected
thousands of
people and the
race fans of
Northwest Ohio
are stepping
up to help.
This weekend
is a big event
at Fremont
Speedway. The
UNOH All Star
Circuit of
Champion
Sprint Car
teams will
compete in a
double-header
on Saturday
and Sunday.
And, not only
is the Second
Annual Kick-It
Kickball
Tournament
going to be
held to raise
funds for
childhood
cancer
research, but
the track has
teamed up with
several race
teams and
businesses to
help the
victims of the
tornado.
Three-time
NASCAR Sprint
Cup Champion
Tony Stewart
and Steve Mox
of TSM
Logistics,
along with
Chuck
Bills of
Ohio Logistics
and Janet
Holbrook and
Aaron Call of
CH Motorsports
– owners of 4
time UNOH All
Star Champion
Tim Shaffer –
are working
together to
provide
transportation
to deliver
items to the
victims of the
Oklahoma
tornado.
“We have had
several race
teams and fans
from the
Oklahoma area
visit Fremont
Speedway over
the years and
we want to
help them get
back on their
feet. We have
seen how that
tornado has
impacted so
many lives and
we know our
fans and race
teams are
looking for a
way to show we
care. We will
have a trailer
at the track
this weekend
to collect
items to be
delivered to
those people.
Those folks
are some
pretty
resilient
people in
Oklahoma and
we know all
they need is a
helping hand
and we will
show them the
race community
is there to do
just that,”
said Fremont
Speedway
Promoter Rich
Farmer.
A trailer will
be located at
the track to
collect
non-perishable
items such as
toiletries,
bottled water,
work gloves,
tarps,
rebuilding
supplies,
laundry items,
coolers and
cleaning
supplies like
buckets,
gloves, dust
makes, trash
bags,
flashlights,
tarps, shovels
and rakes and
blankets. And
please don’t
forget the
pets – pet
food, treats
and other
supplies are
also needed.
“A huge thank
you to Tony
Stewart and
Steve Mox,
Chuck Bills
and Janet
Holbrook and
Aaron Call.
They called
right away and
asked what
they could do
to help. We
are just
asking for the
fans to stop
at the store
and pick up an
item or two to
help out,”
said Farmer.
“And if any
race teams
would like to
donate some
t-shirts I’m
sure the race
fans impacted
by this
tornado will
wear them
proudly.”
Of course race
fans can also
make monetary
donations to
the American
Red Cross.

UNOH
All Stars and
tough Fremont
regulars ready
to "kick-it"
up in Memorial
Day weekend
double-header
Sunday,
May 19, 2013
By Brian
Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio
– After the
fantastic
racing at
Fremont
Speedway the
last two
weeks, you
know when the
University of
Northwestern
Ohio All Star
Circuit of
Champions come
to “The Track
That Action
Built” for a
Memorial Day
weekend
double-header,
there will be
plenty of
excitement.
The action
kicks off on
Kear’s Speed
Shop Night,
Saturday, May
26 and
continues
Sunday on
Budweiser Beer
Night
featuring a
$10,000 to win
A-main. There
is a rain date
for the Sunday
show set for
Monday, May
27. The two
events mark
the 106th and
107th visit by
the All Stars
at the
historic
Fremont
Speedway,
second only to
Eldora
Speedway.
“Any time the
All Stars come
here they know
they will have
a battle on
their hands
with our tough
weekly
competitors.
The track has
been very racy
and I think
we’re going to
have one hell
of a weekend
for the fans,”
said Fremont
Speedway
Promoter Rich
Farmer.
UNOH All Star
competitors
have had
success at
Fremont
already this
year.
Four-time and
defending
series
champion Tim
Shaffer, who
now has 9
career All
Star wins at
Fremont and 13
overall at the
track, scored
a win on
opening night.
Not to be
outdone,
two-time
series
champion Greg
Wilson has two
wins this
season at
Fremont to run
his career
total to 11 at
the track. The
last win, this
past Saturday,
was a dandy as
he came
roaring from
18th starting
spot. Cap
Henry, who cut
his racing
teeth at the
one-third mile
oval, scored
an exciting
win two weeks
ago at
Fremont.
Current UNOH
All Star point
leader Dale
Blaney is
looking to add
to his series
win total as
well. “The Low
Rider” has 16
career wins at
Fremont, 11 of
those being
All Star
victories to
lead all
drivers in
series’ wins
at the track.
Blaney swept
the Memorial
Day weekend at
Fremont last
season.
Don’t count
out Danny
Holtgraver who
picked up the
UNOH All Star
win this past
Saturday at
I-77 Raceway.
Holtgraver has
an open win at
Mercer
Speedway and
Attica Raceway
Park this
season as
well.
“Winning at
Fremont was
one of my
goals this
year. I really
want to get
one there bad.
The
competition is
as good as any
where we
race,” said
Holtgraver.
Then throw in
the tough
weekly
competitors
like defending
and two-time
track champion
Craig Mintz,
Chris Andrews,
three time
track champion
Byron Reed,
Brian Smith,
rookie
sensation D.J.
Foos who is
coming off a
second place
run this past
weekend and
others like
Brian Lay,
Jody Keegan,
Caleb
Griffith, Dean
Jacobs, Duane
Zablocki,
Brandon
Martin, Stuart
Brubaker and
rookie Paige
Polyak. Polyak
is the first
female to win
a sprint car
race at
Fremont
Speedway,
having
competed in
the tough 305
sprint ranks.
She is coming
off a second
place run with
the UNOH All
Stars at I-77
speedway.
Also, in a fun
event for
everyone,
there will be
special kick
ball
tournament
benefitting
the Kick-It
Foundation to
raise funds
for childhood
cancer
research.
There are
currently 9
teams signed
up to
participate
including a
drivers’ team,
crew team,
speedway team,
a couple of
corporate
teams and fan
teams. The
tournament
will get
underway at
the
fairgrounds
around 10 a.m.
and there will
also be an
auction. To

Wilson
wins thriller
at Fremont;
Ivy doubles up
in 305 sprints
and trucks;
Shammo

Saturday,
May 18, 2013
By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio –
For the second
week in a row,
the fans at
Fremont Speedway
were treated to
a thrilling 410
sprint car race
that featured
wheel banging,
the winner
coming from deep
in the field and
a late race
charge from a
rookie.
With four laps
to go, Brian
Smith was trying
to hold off Greg
Wilson who had
charged from his
18th starting
position, and
rookie D.J. Foos
as they sliced
through lapped
traffic. Smith
and Wilson
banged wheels
entering turn
one with Smith
spinning into
the infield with
front end
damage.
On the ensuing
restart, Foos
drove hard to
Wilson’s outside
as they battled
side by side.
Foos would lead
lap 27 by a
bumper. Wilson
would slide back
into the lead on
the bottom as
Foos continued
to race to his
outside. As they
came to the
white, Foos
again had a big
run on the top
side of turns
three and four,
but Wilson was
just too strong
on the bottom of
turns one and
two. Coming to
the checkers,
Foos gave it one
last shot on the
high side, but
Wilson drifted
up exiting turn
four, breaking
Foos’ momentum
as Wilson drove
to his second
win of the
season on Roots
Poultry Night.

It was a Kistler
Racing Products
FAST (Fremont
Attica Sprint
Title)
Championship
Series Presented
by KS Sales and
Service points
race that will
reward the
champion at
season’s end
with $10,000.
“I’m sorry to
you fans that me
and Brian bumped
cause that was
going to be a
hell of a race.
I love this
sport and we
banged wheels
going for the
win and the
first guy to
congratulate me
at the scales
was Brian Smith.
Now that’s one
heck of a man
right there,”
said Wilson
beside his DNC
Hydraulics/Hercules
Tire/All Star
Plumbing and
Heating/Ohio
Logistics backed
#w20.
“I knew D.J. was
pretty good in
three and four
there…I could
see that early
on in the run.
When we got
going and I hit
my marks down
there we were
pretty bad ass
off the bottom.
I can’t believe
this. We started
18th and I’m
sitting there
and I’m thinking
if we can run
top five I’ll be
happy and then
the cautions
fell at the
right time and
this Warnimont
Motorsports car
was awesome. I
have to thank
Zack, John,
Roger, my dad
and most of all,
my wife and my
kids. DNC
Hydraulics is a
big part of our
team and has
been for a lot
of years and the
Conaway family
lost a father
Friday night so
this win is for
them,” added
Wilson in the
Engine Pro
Victory Lane.

Fremont native
John Ivy
continued his
hot streak,
winning both the
Fremont Federal
Credit Union 305
Sprint feature
and the AAA Ohio
Auto Club Dirt
Truck feature
for the second
time this
season. Ivy now
has three truck
wins and a pair
of 305 sprint
wins this season
at Fremont
Speedway, taking
his career total
to 41 as he now
sits 8th on the
track’s all-time
win list.
“The boys had
her dialed in
tonight for me.
Joey and my
brother have
been working on
this thing real
hard and Kistler
gives us a heck
of a motor. I
had a couple of
breaks there at
the beginning
but I’ll take it
any way I can
get it,” said
Ivy beside his
#8i 305
sprinter.
“I have to thank
everyone on this
deal. Sonny’s
Machine Shop,
B&L
Plumbing, Kear’s
Speedshop,
Miller Rigging,
the Little Bar
on the Prairie,
Big D’s Pizza,
Fremont
Fence…everybody
that stands
behind us. It’s
been a fun
year,” added
Ivy.
In the dirt
trucks took the
lead on the
third lap and
never looked
back on route to
the win.
“I’m hoping
we’re not done
winning yet. I’m
really liking
this. I have to
thank Charlie
and Craig and
everyone that
helps us out.
This is a ball
and they work
their butts off
on this thing
and I’m glad I
can at least
have them on the
front stretch,”
said Ivy beside
his #00 truck.
“Level
Performance,
Diversified
Machine and
Welding,
Sonny’s, Vision
Quest…they all
help out a great
deal on this.”

In a crash
filled Surfin’
Sweepstakes
Sports Compacts
feature, Amanda
Shammo of
Gibsonburg led
the first lap
and it was all
she had to lead
as the time
limit expired
after just one
circuit.
“It would have
been nice to get
to race the
whole thing but
a win is a win.
I have to thank
my dad…we built
this Honda in
two weeks. Also
my sponsors
Nettie’s
Trucking, Wet
Land Auto Parts,
Design Graphics
Group,
Schroeder’s
Outdoor
Services, Willis
Water Hauling
and Braeden’s
Bridge,” said
Shammo in the
Engine Pro
Victory Lane.
On a night

Henry
holds off
Andrews for
exciting
Fremont FAST
win; Dussel
gets 2nd 305
win in a row;
Ivy earns
truck victory
Saturday,
May 11, 2013
By Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio –
WOW!

That’s what the
fans who
witnessed the
non-stop 30-lap
410 sprint
feature at
Fremont Speedway
left saying
Saturday night.
Cap Henry, Chris
Andrews and
Caleb Griffith
put on a
phenomenal show
on a blustery
night, slicing
and dicing
through lapped
traffic while
trading slide
jobs. In the
end, Henry edged
Andrews for his
first career 410
sprint victory
at “The Track
That Action
Built” on
Baumann Auto
Group Night. The
race featured
numerous lead
changes all
around the
third-mile oval
on a points
night for the
$10,000-to-win
Kistler Racing
Products FAST
(Fremont Attica
Sprint Title)
Championship
Series.
“I hope Chris
isn’t mad cause
we made contact
a couple times
there battling
for the lead and
then when we got
into lapped
traffic I had to
make some moves.
That was one of
the most intense
races I’ve ever
run,” said Henry
beside his
K&N
Filters/FK Rod
Ends/Champion
Oil/Kistler
Engines backed
#54.

“I lost my
brakes there the
last five laps
and I thought
‘okay Chris, if
you give me a
slider I’m not
lifting…it’s
either win it or
crash.’ But, he
raced me clean
and hard. This
one is for John
Wisbon…it would
have been his
birthday today
and it’s special
for my crew
chief A.J.
(Havens). I have
to thank A.J.
and Barman
(Andrew). They
have busted
their tails and
while I get all
the glory I’m
standing here
because of their
hard work,”
continued Henry
in the Engine
Pro Victory
Lane. “I used to
hate coming to
this place
because we never
ran well. It’s
starting to grow
on me...I can’t
wait for the All
Star shows here
in a couple of
weeks.”
The Fremont
Federal Credit
Union 305 Sprint
feature also
went non-stop,
with Bradner,
Ohio’s Nate
Dussel holding
off John Ivy to
score his second
win in a row and
the third of the
season at
Fremont. Dussel
also has two
wins at Attica
Raceway Park in
2013. It also
came on a points
night for the
JLH General
Contractor 305
FAST
Championship
Series.
“Wow…this came
on a FAST night
and I always
have such crappy
luck on a FAST
night…this is
awesome,” said
Dussel beside
his Berrier
Fabrication/Kylynn
Manufacturing/Conrad
Transport/Gressman
Powersports/Design
Graphics Group
#1. “If you
would have heard
our pit area
before the
feature…all you
heard was air
wrenches and
people slamming
stuff. They
changed so much
in the last five
minutes….I’m so
fortunate to
have so many
crew guys. This
thing is easy to
drive right now.
To win five out
of the first
seven point
races…it doesn’t
get any better
than this.”
“I want to thank
the fans. We had
a lone rain
delay (an hour)
and you stuck
around. This
place is the
most bad ass
place to race
because the fans
are awesome,”
concluded Dussel
in the Engine
Pro Victory
Lane.
In another good
feature, John
Ivy, Dustin
Keegan and Dan
Roepke Jr. waged
a tremendous
battle over the
20 laps of the
AAA Ohio Auto
Club Dirt Truck
feature before
Ivy would take
the win. It was
the second truck
feature win of
the season for
Ivy and the 39th
of his career at
Fremont. Ivy is
now one win away
from tying
hall-of-famer
Harold McGilton
for eighth on
the track’s
all-time win
list.

“The truck was
easy to drive, I
just had to not
screw up. I wish
we could have
gotten the 305
win too, but
we’ll take
this,” said Ivy,
who earned an
additional $150
from the Baumann
Auto Group. “I
want to thank
Level
Performance,
Diversified
Machine and
Welding, Sonny’s
Machine Shop and
Vision Quest for
their help.
Hopefully this
is just the
start of a lot
of wins this
year.”
In the Surfin’
Sweepstakes
Sports Compact,
defending track
champion Brandon
Myers passed
Evan Patynko on
a restart with
two laps to go
to score his
third career win
at Fremont.
“Track was slick
tonight…I like
it dry. I have
to thank my
grandpa
especially. He
helps me out
with the car. If
it wasn’t for
him I’d probably
not be racing,”
said Myers
beside his BG
Radiator/Loren
Sautter/R&R
Repair backed
#32.
